Joe Rogan does not shy away from expressing controversial opinions. As host of the world’s most successful podcast, ‘Joe Rogan Experience’, he received significant backlash for having guests skeptical of vaccines, lockdown measures, and even masks, on his podcast during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The UFC commentator has been critical of the state of the US for-profit healthcare industry. In episode #2079, the Texas resident had a long and extensive conversation on his podcast with former pharmaceutical representative Brigham Buhler about his company’s novel health system.

Buhler reveals problem with health insurance companies in America
Buhler was very critical of the United States insurance-based private healthcare model. His company is not contracted with any third-party insurance provider, as it allows their “providers to guide care, without the disruption of big insurance,” according to their website. However, the former pharma rep was optimistic about the capacity of Large Language Models (LLMs) to provide patients with treatment plans.
“The main reason it’s not adopted more often is they’re just in the insurance model, right… I see large language models and an evolving market allowing patients to get that education on their own they don’t have to wait to talk to a doctor, right. I will have a team of academics right there at your fingertips proactively analyzing everything about you and [it] would be private,” he told Rogan.
It is important to note that this is not actual medical advice, and the opinion of Buhler, the CEO of a healthcare company that competes, offers an alternative healthcare delivery system. The former pharma rep, however, warned the podcast host that it would be catastrophic if health-related data were to be acquired by insurance companies.

Buhler wary of insurance companies accessing health data
The Ways2Well founder was especially concerned about the health data collected. For instance, wearables such as smartwatches getting into the health insurance companies’ hands. The former pharma rep warned that this could lead to them using LLM-based algorithms and models to predict future health conditions, extract higher premiums, or even kick customers off plans. He cited Gary Brecka, the founder of 10X Health System, another healthcare firm, and his warning against the insurance companies.

“You do not want this data in the hands of insurance companies. Listen to what Gary Brecka is telling you, he worked for the big insurance companies… Because they’re going to use it to limit your care to limit what they seek and to kick you off a plan [because] they’re going to know when the chronic disease is coming,” Buhler added.
