The JRE MMA Show #123 featured former UFC Welterweight and Lightweight champion, BJ Penn, alongside host Joe Rogan. During the podcast, the two went over a cluster of MMA topics, and in one of the segments, they were discussing the abundance of talent in the current welterweight division.

Of all the names that were thrown around, Rogan was hyped about one fighter. This was none other than the up-and-coming fighter, Shavkat Rakhmonov.

“You know you think, you think of a guy like that, you think of a wrestler. But this guy, although he is absolutely a good Grappler, his kicks are f**king insane. He can wrestle too, but as a striker is where he really shines. He throws nasty kicks to the body. Just a really good striker, tough as f**k, and undefeated. But he’s like a guy that’s not getting a lot of hype for whatever reason, but I think he’s someone to keep an eye on,” Joe Rogan said.

The two then reacted to a highlight clip of Rakhmonov in which he submits his opponent and also uses his kicks to inflict damage. BJ Penn was flabbergasted seeing Rakhmonov fight. The Uzbek fighter currently has 3 fights in the UFC of which he won all via either submission or knockout. He is also undefeated with a record of 15-0-0.

The Road Ahead

The path ahead for the undefeated fighter looks bright, as he slowly earns the respect of his competitors and fans. The promising fighter has already caught the eyes of Rogan and Penn and will be looking to earn his spot in the top welterweight rankings.

His next fight has already been booked for the UFC Fight Night card, which is scheduled for June 25. He will be facing the likes of Neil Magny, who is coming off a 2-fight win streak.

The Early Career of Khamzat Chimaev Before UFC and MMA

This fight will arguably be Rakhmonov’s toughest, as he takes on a very seasoned and skillful opponent. Although Magny is the superior fighter in terms of experience, it would be foolish to count out Rakhmonov, who has been stomping on every opponent he faces. A win over Magny will open all sorts of doors of opportunities for him.
