Joe Rogan had a mixed day at the office as a commentator in UFC 291. While Rogan remains one of the most loved personalities in the combat sports universe, he landed in the realm of public scrutiny during the proceedings of UFC 291.

Fans can be unforgiving, and Rogan was on the receiving end today as just one such incident culminated in an average day at work for Joe. In the fight between Roman Kopylov and Claudio Rebeiro, he forgot a basic statistic about Kopylov. This didn’t go down well with fans.

However, before the Kopylov incident, there was another incident that rattled the veteran commentator’s composure.

Joe Rogan wasn’t too pleased to see this particular incident and called it out

Rogan was visibly upset at what happened in a Preliminary card fight between Jake Matthews and Darrius Flowers.

In the second round of this particular fight, Matthews executed a swift and precise front high kick, aiming at his opponent, Flowers. However, Flowers, in an attempt to gain an advantage, theatrically portrayed the kick as a painful and illegal strike to the groin. He dramatically dropped to his knees, clutching his head in agony. Consequently, the concerned referee had no option but to call for an immediate timeout, allowing Flowers to catch his breath and recover.

Upon closer examination of the replay, it became evident that Matthews’ kick was completely legal, and there was no foul play involved. The crowd, as expected, became incensed at Flowers’ attempt to deceive the referee and sway the match in his favor. They expressed their discontent with passionate boos and jeers. Rogan, too, noticed this and called out this act of Flowers by saying, “This is clearly a legal blow from our perspective.” This call should have put Rogan and the fans on the same side, but this moment was not going to last.

The Matthews-Flowers encounter was followed by the Kopylov- Ribeiro encounter. After Kopylov’s phenomenal victory over Claudio Ribeiro, he was interviewed by Rogan. Undeniably, Rogan asked who the victor wanted to fight next. Kopylov thanked Dana White and the matchmakers for the chance to fight and then revealed his desire to fight Sean Strickland.

Thereafter, Rogan said, “So you would like to go up to 185 lbs? You’re 185 right now… So, that would be a fantastic fight. However, Sean is very high in the rankings and up for a title shot.”  This momentary lapse in messing up the weight of the already 185-pound Kopylov did not sit well with fans.

MMA world reacts to Joe Rogan messing up the interview at UFC 291

As soon as the video of the interview was uploaded on YouTube by the UFC’s official channel, the MMA fans poured in nothing but disappointment towards the commentator. Rogan not only forgot the weight category of the fighter he was interviewing but also seemed to dismiss his call-out.

The fans claimed that Rogan needed to be fired.

  • Joe Rogan needs to be fired what a joke of an interview
  • Please fire joe rogan. Forgetting that the 185 fighter fights at 185 in the interview is embarassing.

Furthermore, the fans expressed their thoughts on Rogan dismissing the fighter’s callout.

  • Joe forgetting Kopylov’s in 185 and then dismissing his callout after asking about it

Lastly, one of the fans pointed out that the commentator did the same with Jan Blachowicz.

  • Forgetting the fighters weight class you are interviewing is not a good look Joe. Did it with Jan Blachowicz as well.

Nevertheless, the fights kept enhancing the fans’ entropy. With the BMF title on the line, all eyes were on the Octagon. However, the fans seldom expect such slips from Rogan.
