Fans know Joe Rogan for his outspoken nature. The veteran UFC color commentator often expresses his unfiltered views on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience. The Spotify podcast host continued in the same vein in a chat with former MMA fighter Gina Carano (JRE #1837), where he explained his number one problem with scoring in mixed martial arts bouts.

Rogan said, “This is my number one problem with scoring. The way we have scoring with MMA. Either one of those rounds could be a 10-9 round or a round where someone beat someone pretty cleanly and lands a lot of shots could also be a 10-9 round.”

He further added, “That doesn’t make any sense. That’s a flaw in the scoring system…We need a better system. We don’t need boxing system. We need something that it’s like, it shouldn’t have anything to do with 10-9.”

Why is Joe Rogan So Important to the UFC?

There should be a bunch of factors like volume, the amount of strikes, submissions, takedowns, all the damage, all that s**t added up and it should be totally different. I mean we should have scores like 57-96 for one round, you know 120 for another round. Like that kind of s**t. Because that’s more indicative of what’s actually happening in a fight than 10-9.

This is not the first time Rogan has criticized the judging system in mixed martial arts. On an earlier occasion, he even praised boxing judging over MMA scoring.

Joe Rogan calls MMA judging disgraceful

Over the years, the sport of MMA has faced an issue with judging that has cost fighters some momentum in their careers. Be it Tyron ‘The Chosen One‘ Woodley against Jake Shields or Jake Collier against Andrei Arlovski, a lot of fighters have been victims of the decisions of the three judges scoring the contest at octagon side. Joe Rogan touched upon this in his podcast.

The veteran color commentator said, “Could you imagine if you had like an Ultimate Fighting Championship eight-man tournament with all the judges? Have them fight each other. You will be like what in the f**k is going on.”

While Joe Rogan pointed out that a lot of judges in MMA come from the sport of boxing, he was appreciative of American boxing judge Harold Lederman. The color commentator said, “I don’t know if Harold Lederman can box, does a great job at judging though. I mean, I agree with a lot of his assessments.”

The podcast host added that the judging in boxing is straightforward compared to MMA. Rogan said, “Boxing is more straightforward. It’s two hands. There’s no elbows, knees, takedowns. You don’t have to understand jiu-jitsu, you don’t have to understand wrestling…how many leg kicks is that guy eating…They don’t know…A lot of them don’t. It’s a disgrace.”
