Despite the number of top fighters in the UFC, women’s MMA has often struggled to gain the same level of prominence as its male counterparts. But it appears that the struggle to raise the level of WMMA’s credibility isn’t the only issue that women are facing. During a recent episode of the JRE MMA Show, Joe Rogan and his guest, Michael ‘Venom’ Page’s conversation revealed yet another issue.

Michael Page made his much-awaited debut on Joe Rogan‘s podcast more than a decade after making a name for himself in the MMA world. He’s not just creative with his fighting style, but the Londoner also appears to be quite thoughtful. The middleweight fighter revealed that for the longest time, he thought male and female fighters should be able to train with the same intensity. However, women pushing as hard as men could lead to problems, especially due to their menstrual cycles.

“[Men have] 24 hours and they have 28 days. So, there are specific times that they should be training harder than they shouldn’t be training or they should be doing this and should be doing that… based on just the time of the [menstrual cycle] of the month,” Michael ‘Venom’ Page told Joe Rogan on JRE MMA #170“In my head, I’m like, there’s the girls that are training our class, and they have to train and do everything that we do. But we don’t [know]. We forget that we’re just doing it based on men can kind of just keep going.”

This led Joe Rogan to give what Page said a thought. He advised female fighters to work around their fights in accordance with their monthly cycles to avoid health issues. “Women should think about that one while they’re scheduling fights,” said Joe Rogan, as Michael ‘Venom’ Page stood in agreement.

Joe Rogan is perhaps the biggest advocate of MMA there is, and the same goes for his passion for women’s MMA. He still holds some of the female fighters who previously competed in the UFC in high regard, and at UFC 319, the longtime commentator celebrated one of those female fighters.

Joe Rogan interrupts UFC 319 broadcast to congratulate former female UFC fighter

At UFC 319, people were talking about Khamzat Chimaev and his dominant grappling and wrestling showcase against Dricus du Plessis that helped him clinch the title five years after joining the promotion. But Joe Rogan had eyes everywhere! Liz Carmouche, a former rival of Ronda Rousey who now competes under the PFL banner, received a pleasant birthday gift from the 58-year-old.

With Liz Carmouche hitting 41 years of age after winning her recent PFL tournament, Joe Rogan said, “By the way, shout out to Liz Carmouche!” He added, “First woman to ever enter the UFC Octagon, and at 41, won the PFL tournament last night.” As anyone would expect, Carmouche loved that Rogan name-dropped her on a UFC show. “It was really cool to see that cross-promotion mention of anyone else is a big deal. And for it to be someone like Joe Rogan, that’s an even bigger deal for him to mention anything in a positive light,” she told MMA Junkie.

Coming back to the discussion surrounding the issues female fighters face in training and in fights, Joe Rogan and ‘MVP’ do make compelling cases for the UFC to take a little extra care when it comes to the women. What are your thoughts regarding this matter? Drop your comments below.
