The massive match-up between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 saw the promotion’s greatest rivalry come to a close. Both mixed martial artist has been feuding against one another for well over 2 years and finally, it was time to settle the score. In the lead-up to the fight, McGregor promised to secure a knockout win, but unfortunately, things didn’t go his way.

Nurmagomedov not only managed to win the fight and finish his arch-rival, but he also dominated him in every aspect. ‘The Eagle’ stood tall in both striking departments and grappling exchanges, securing the only knockdown in the 5-round fight.

The Dagestani native eventually secured a 4th round submission win. Despite his dominant performance, rumors began to make rounds, alleging that McGregor actually quit prematurely by citing the position of the choke. UFC color commentator, Joe Rogan debunked these claims and offered a proper run down, stating what actually occurred inside the octagon.

He said, “But it really feels like your f**g head is gonna pop off, right? What he is doing, he’s wrapping around the face, and you don’t have to even go under the jaw. You can get it on the chin, especially if you are strong as f**k like Khabib, then you clamp your hands together and you’re pressing your forearm against his back.”

Rogan also shed light on Nurmagomedov’s extensive training as a grappler that he started early in his life. The lifelong training certainly paid off as the Nurmagomedov never dropped a fight in his entire career. UFC color commentator also suggested that this strict routine alone helped train his muscles to exert tremendous amounts of pressure.

He continued, “So you have got this, and you got the forearm against his back, and you’re doing this. And your f**g head is just like…..And Khabib is strong. He has been grappling since he was a baby. All of his muscles are designed to squeeze, crush and smash.”
