Not too long ago, Joe Rogan had proclaimed Ian Garry as a fighter the welterweight division needs to keep their eye on. But with his recent feud against Colby Covington, Rogan’s remarks have added another dimension to the heated build-up between the two fighters!

The Irish welterweight contender recently secured another win in his undefeated UFC run when he prevailed over Geoff Neal at UFC 298. With a split-decision win, Garry’s performance led to him securing a place in the top 10 of the UFC’s welterweight division. As such, Rogan’s past comments during a conversation with MMA legend, Bas Rutten have now come to light. During their discussion, Rogan stated how impressed he was with Garry’s performances inside the cage and Rutten agreed. Let’s see what they had discussed.

In his 2023 appearance on the JRE (Joe Rogan Experience) MMA Show, UFC Hall of Famer and MMA icon, Bas Rutten revealed what he thought about Ian Garry. He stated, “Ian Garry… dude, that’s a fun guy to watch”

This prompted Rogan to praise the young fighter by stating, “Undefeated and so confident and so intelligent and you know, beating Daniel Rodriguez like that in his last fight and being the first guy to stop Rodriguez, I mean, that’s a big deal. He’s got it, man, he’s got it, whatever it is. He’s on his way up.”

The podcast host was referring to Garry’s performance against Daniel Rodriguez that took place on the UFC on ABC: Rozenstruik vs Almeida event in 2023, where the Irishman finished the fight in the very first round with a head kick and follow-up strikes.

Rutten then pondered the question, “That’s the thing, the it thing, what is the ‘it’ thing right? Because how many fighters do you see that constantly go for the belt, go for the belt but they never really get the belt and it’s so weird. You go like ‘Man, he should be a champ. But somehow, he’s not.’”

The discussion on Rogan’s show sheds light on Garry’s impressive performances and the elusive “it” factor that separates champions from contenders in the competitive realm of MMA. And with Garry’s recent call-out of former interim welterweight champion, Colby Covington, the Irish star has received a shocking reply from ‘Chaos’ that has added more heat to the flames of their feud!

‘Chaos’ responds to Garry’s call-out in his trademark fashion

Colby Covington has finally responded to Ian Machado Garry’s callout after his win at UFC 298. Garry had explicitly named Covington in his post-fight interview, expressing his desire to face him next.

Covington, known for his outspoken nature, fired back at Garry with a profanity-laced tirade recently on social media. From the deck of a yacht, Covington stated, “So let me teach you all a lesson about how you bait someone… Ian Garry, you translucent cu*k, you wanted my attention, now you got it.”

He then went on to mock Garry for his withdrawal from fights and his performance against Geoff Neal. Covington also laid down 3 “stipulations” for Garry that he wants the Irish fighter to meet before he accepts the fight.

He stated that Garry and his wife should turn on their Instagram comments and if they turn them off before the fight, Garry forfeits. The second and third stipulations involved Covington asking Garry’s wife to “beg” for the fight and to pose with Colby Covington during a sponsored segment.

A fight against Covington could be Garry’s door to a title shot. Here is where the ‘it’ factor that Rogan mentioned comes in. Garry has proven himself against some of the tougher welterweights. But can he do the same against the elite-level stars like Covington? Do you think we will see them in the cage this year? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
