JRE #1819 featured Rogan alongside Cameron Hanes. The two went over a cluster of topics, and in one segment, discussed bots on Twitter. Rogan first brought up the fact that billionaire Elon Musk halted the Twitter purchase for the time being to calculate the number of fake followers first.
He said, “Also, one thing they found out on Twitter. Elon put the hold on the Twitter purchase. He’s like, hey, how many f**king fake followers do you guys have?”
Rogan then talked about Musk getting into trouble. He said, “He got in trouble for saying that because he violated the NDA.” Here, Rogan was referring to the fact that the Twitter legal team contacted Musk after a tweet in which Musk revealed that Twitter used 100 accounts as the sample size to calculate the number of fake accounts on the app.

Twitter originally revealed the number of bots to be less than five percent of users. But, Jamie Vernon, the producer of JRE, disagreed with this statement. He said, “That’s got to be like 50-60%,” this claim shocked Rogan.

Rogan said, “Really! You think it’s 50% fake?” Vernon then explained his reasoning by saying, “If you look at some people’s account when they tweet something, the amount of interaction that is happening at that moment is not real.”
Vernon also talks about the rise of bots by taking the example of Instagram. He explained how access to Instagram from browsers gave coders the power to set up programs to automatically comment on a post when it is posted.

The relationship between the two is strong, and Rogan has always praised Musk when talking about him and his accomplishments. We will probably see them collaborate again, perhaps in another JRE podcast.
