Joe Rogan doubles down on his comments on Colby Covington
UFC 296 was an absolute banger with fights happening inside and outside the octagon. The main event witnessed Leon Edwards defeating Colby Covington through a unanimous decision. Covington’s defeat was a testament that in the heat of the moment, one should not bring family members in between.
Rogan firmly believes that, despite Covington’s skill in getting under the skin of his opponents and using it to his advantage, his recent performance inside the octagon was something entirely distinct. While having a conversation on the ‘JRE MMA Show’, Rogan said “Colby [Covington] talked so much s*; it was f* up [what he said about Leon Edwards’ dad]. That’s Colby. He’s the master at getting under people’s skin, but I think in that fight, it backfired. He didn’t look good.”
To take you down the memory lane: Colby Covington made fun of Leon Edwards’s father’s death and his profession at the UFC 296 press conference. ‘Chaos’ asserted that he would send Edwards down to the depth of hell where his father resides. This comment by Covington enraged Edwards and he threw a water bottle at him, vowing to defeat Covington.

Covington vs. Edwards fight disappoints fans with lackluster performance
Fans took to the internet to add their respective opinion about their fight on Joe Rogan’s assessment post about their performance. Some of the comments by the fans are as follows:-
Starting off with one of the fans coming in defense for Covington.
Colby didnt even say anything crazy yall soft fr
Furthermore, one of the fans asserted that his comments did not backfire for him but it’s just that Edwards is just a better fighter.
It didn’t Backfire. He’s just not as good as Leon
Moreover, a fan claimed that Covington’s banters are not that good and his fight against Edwards was just as awful, and he has to work to maintain his image.
I don’t even mind Colby, but his shi** talking isn’t great and the fight was incredibly embarrassing. He has to reassess his entire image.
Likewise, a fan put forward a proper observation perspective on their fight. He claimed that Covington was not that good and it’s palpable but Edwards’s lackluster performance is a surprise considering the fact that he is the champion.
They both looked bad during that fight. I understand Colby needs to bring it since he’s the challenger but the Champ should prove he’s the champ for a reason. Insert Volks performances.
Another fan shared the same perspective.
He looked bad. Leon didn’t look great either, but Colby’s suck was way worse.

It didn’t backfire, Leon is just significantly better than him. Colby isn’t a championship caliber fighter, it’s literally the reason he invented the gimmick.
