The JRE #1838 episode featured Joe Rogan alongside Brian Simpson, in which the two discussed a cluster of topics. In one segment, the two discussed the upcoming main event of UFC 276 between Adesanya and Cannonier. The two watched the old fight tapes of Adesanya early in his career while he was still kickboxing.

In particular, the two watched Adesanya’s fight against Alex Pereira. This match went viral as Adesanya was knocked out in it. Even though Rogan had kind words for Pereira, he explained how Adesanya was a much different fighter now. He said, “The Izzy (Israel) from back then is not the Izzy of today. He’s way better now, way better now.”

This statement from Rogan is true, as we have seen Adesanya evolve his striking skills and dominate fighters in the octagon. Since his kickboxing days, he has fought the best of the best in the UFC and used his striking to get the better of them.

In an unprecedented turn of events, Pereira won both the kickboxing bouts. He then made a similar transition to Adesanya and shifted to the UFC. He is currently on a two-fight winning streak and will face off against the #4 contender, Sean Strickland, on the same card as Adesanya.

If both the fighters win their bouts, there is a high probability that the two will face each other next. The hype behind his potential matchup is unreal and it will be a gift to all fight fans.
