Jose Aldo has finally called it a career after over two decades as a professional fighter. From a poor kid who started martial arts to escape poverty to going undefeated for a decade to becoming one of the greatest featherweights in the history of the sport to being knocked out in thirteen seconds by Conor McGregor, Aldo, considered one of the greatest of all time has had quite a career.
Unortuaely, ‘Junior’ wasn’t able to go out on a win, suffering a unanimous decision loss to Aiemann Zahabi in a wild UFC 315 clash last weekend. But many feel that Aldo was robbed. In fact, former UFC star Josh Thomson and legendary MMA referee ‘Big’ John McCarthy got into a heated back-and-forth on their ‘Weighing In’ podcast about whether or not the legendary Brazilian veteran deserved the win or not.
“This is one of those fights, though. There’s going to be a lot of people complaining about this one, saying Aldo won, and it’s like, no,” ‘Big John’ began.

“I kind of thought he did it… It was close, though. I’m not mad,” Thomson interjected.
“He won the first round, no doubt about it,” McCarthy agreed. “Second round was damn close, damn close so it could go either way. In the third round, although he hurt Zahabi, by the end Zahabi had brought it back, he won the [round], you know.”

Indeed, the first round clearly belonged to Aldo. The second round, although closer, still looked like one for Aldo since he largely controlled the pace and landed more good shots. All hell broke loose in the third round, as Aldo dropped the Canadian featherweight with a fantastic knee to the head followed by a head kick. But Zahabi fought back bravely and ended the fight in mount, bloodying ‘Junior’ with vicious elbows.

Sixteen of the twenty media members scored the fight 29-28 for Aldo, while two had it as a draw. The judges, however, saw the fight very differently. They scored the fight 29-28 for Zahabi, with all three scoring the second and third 10-9 for the up-and-coming Canadian prospect. Which is why Thomson strongly disagrees with McCarthy that Aldo lost.
What’s your perspective on:
Did the judges rob Jose Aldo of a deserved victory, or was Zahabi the rightful winner?

Josh Thomson feels judges ‘robbed’ Jose Aldo at UFC 315
“Bro, he dropped Zahabi!” an incredulous Josh Thomson protested, implying Aldo should have won the third round on the scorecards. “He did get dropped,” McCarthy agreed, but pointed out why he and the judges felt Zahabi won. “Did you see him at the end taking those elbows?”

But ‘Punk’ felt that “taking a small little elbow here and there is not a big deal,” and felt that McCarthy was letting Zahabi battering Aldo’s face with his elbows influence his decision, and not taking the whole round into account. “I honestly thought Jose won. I thought he did enough damage in the third round, in the beginning of the third round. He dropped him twice,” Thomson declared.
In fact, the former UFC star felt that the only reason Aldo lost was because the “judges are just f—ing biased” towards Zahabi, the Canadian guy because “they were in Canada.” What do you think about Thomson and ‘Big John’s take on the Jose Aldo UFC 315 decision loss?
