Jon Jones does not care if people call him a “duck.” Not one bit. The ‘undisputed’ heavyweight champion, of course, is dragging his feet on fighting the interim heavyweight champ, Tom Aspinall. Many suspect it is because the GOAT contender is “scared” of facing the Englishman, who is bigger than Jones, younger than Jones, and has a destructive, remarkably well-rounded once-in-a-generation game that can give ‘Bones’ nightmares.
Jones, of course, had demanded “f–k you money” to fight Aspinall, and according to Ariel Helwani, Dana White agreed to pay him said money. However, there hasn’t been any progress on the fight so far. We know Aspinall wants it and the UFC want it. The only person not on board so far is Jon Jones. Other fighters may take great offense to the implication that they are afraid of fighting someone in their division, and may take a fight against them to prove a point. But not Jones, who dismissed fans accusing him of ducking Aspinall on a recent Instagram Live.
“I’ve got people in the chat calling me a duck. Meanwhile, I’m living my absolute best life. I don’t know if it’s considered ducking when you’re living good. I don’t think it works like that,” Jones told the chat on an IG Live he did on his bike.

Of course, fans were quick to point out that living a good life and being a duck have nothing to do with each other. One could live a very good life and at the same time not want to fight someone else. But it’s good to see that at least being called a coward isn’t adversely affecting Jones’s ego. On the other hand, Jones dragging his feet is actually affecting Tom Aspinall, who just wants Jones to say yes or no to fighting him.
Tom Aspinall reveals fate of Jon Jones to be revealed soon
Tom Aspinall is absolutely convinced that Jon Jones is ducking him. The interim champ feels that the 38-year-old ‘Bones’ has “got like a million miles on the clock,” and has got “a lot of damage on the body, he’s took a lot of shots to the head.” Indeed, Jones has been fighting for nearly two decades at this point.

In fact, the reason many consider him the greatest of all time is that he has never been beaten despite having fought at the highest level for so long. A fight with Jones would probably be the biggest fight of Aspinall’s career, and define his legacy should he beat the GOAT contender. However, the Englishman doesn’t even care about any of that anymore. He just wants to fight– whether against Jones or someone else– and isn’t going to wait anymore.
What’s your perspective on:
Is Jon Jones truly scared of Tom Aspinall, or is he just playing mind games?
Have an interesting take?
“Oh, I’m well bored of it. I’ve had enough. I think we either need to fight or I need to move on and do something else and like I said, I’m going to find out. Literally, today is the day that I’ve been waiting 3-4 months for and I’m going to find out today,” Aspinall said on the ‘High Performance’ YouTube channel.
