“I’ve already agreed to make $15 million for my next fight… Hell yeah, bro, I’m about to beat up this old man and ride off into the sunset. Hope you enjoy watching.” That’s what Jon Jones reportedly replied to a Tom Aspinall fan in a leaked DM ahead of his UFC 309 fight against Stipe Miocic. The fan accused him of ducking Aspinall in favor of fighting a 40-plus-year-old Miocic, while the Brit held the interim belt. And with the unification bout still up in the air, Jones continues to face similar criticism this year as well.

After the highly anticipated superfight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall couldn’t happen last year, fans had their hopes pinned on 2025 to finally make it happen. The frustration has started to boil over, not just among fans, but from Aspinall himself, who hasn’t shied away from expressing his disappointment on multiple occasions. As the majority of fans have displayed their support towards the interim champ. Meanwhile, ‘Bones’ has been catching serious heat online.

Even while Jon Jones was in Thailand, it was rare for him to go a day without catching heat online over the Aspinall fight. Fans kept calling for him to be stripped of his title, but Jones didn’t flinch. In fact, he fired back on X, saying, “Stripped? Lol, do I come across as the type of person who cares about things like that?” Shortly after, he revealed he’s already informed the UFC of his plans, sparking massive speculation about his return.

This time, another fan took a shot at him. Popular Instagram account Verdict MMA posted, “Most insecure high-level athlete in UFC history?” The idea that the heavyweight champ is “insecure” stems from the belief that he’s avoiding Tom Aspinall, fearing a brutal knockout or a one-sided loss if the fight ever happens. But without missing a beat, Jon Jones fired back, “Give me a record for that as well, I’ll take it,” turning the jab into yet another reminder of his stacked legacy.

Jon Jones has broken records, made records, and now holds them all with a championship grin. He’s the youngest champion in UFC history, has an almost unblemished record, his only loss coming via disqualification against Matt Hamill, and holds the most dominant reign with 16 championship appearances. He’s even been named MMA Fighter of the Year multiple times. So, his sarcastically accepting the title of “most insecure fighter ever” record is nothing short of hilarious.

However, Hope for the heavyweight unification bout is growing, especially after Dana White confirmed during his UFC 317 stream that the fight will happen. Still, frustration remains. Many voices are sharing different opinions, and Robert Whittaker believes that, by now, nobody really cares anymore about this heavyweight superfight.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Jon Jones dodging Tom Aspinall, or is he just playing the long game for legacy?

Robert Whittaker believes he’s done waiting for the Jon Jones vs Tom Aspinall fight

Former middleweight champion Robert Whittaker has found a new fan base lately, thanks to his unfiltered takes. His laid-back, humorous approach to sharing his thoughts has been turning heads and catching attention. Up next, we’ll see him take on Reinier de Ridder in Abu Dhabi, but before that, he’s chimed in on the hottest topic in town, Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall.

In the MMArcade podcast, ‘Bobby Knuckles’ said, “Honestly, who cares now? I’m done. I’m done with waiting. It’s like Elder Scrolls 6, it’s just like, you’ve got to play something else, man. I’m done and honestly, everyone nagging him and poking at him and trying to get clips and stuff is worse for me. It’s way worse for me, I’m done with that, too. I’m just done.”

Once again, nobody beats Robert Whittaker when it comes to hilarious references. Comparing Jones vs. Aspinall to the long-awaited Elder Scrolls 6, which still hasn’t been released after the last game was just a remastered version of Oblivion, was spot on. Just like fans of the game, we’re all stuck waiting, hoping to finally witness the promised spectacle someday. But, he still doesn’t believe how Jones holds the title.

He continued, “I don’t know how Jones still holds the title. Like, I know I mentioned when we first started talking about this many moons ago, how I was like, ‘No one’s stripping Jones. You can’t do that to him.’ But mate, come on, you’re taking the p–s now.” That’s a sentiment many fans genuinely share. Still, as frustrating as it is, we’ll just have to keep waiting for the anticipated fight, even if it takes a little longer.

So, with all that said, do you think the growing tension between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall guarantees we’ll finally see the fight go down later this year? Especially with November being the month the heavyweight champ usually steps in? Drop your thoughts in the comments below
