Jon Jones New Tattoo: Meaning Behind UFC Champ’s Latest Ink

Jon Jones loves fresh new ink and it just shows! In his recent Instagram live, he was seen enjoying while getting a new tattoo behind his ears. It is notable, especially because Jones does not have an awful lot of tattoos. But amidst injuries and controversies that could have legal implications, when he does return to the octagon, fans can expect him with a third!

Jon Jones went live on Instagram to show himself being tattooed. While on the chair, viewers could see an artist patiently working on Jones’ tattoo right behind his left ear. He also gave his artist a chance to introduce himself so one can tell who is responsible for the fighter’s next new tattoo. The phone camera then flips and goes underneath the tattooing chair to show Jones grinning at the fans.

“My name is Esai, E-S-A-I, last name’s Moya, M-O-Y-A” says his tattoo artist on the camera, and added, “Had to bless my guy man. I appreciate him trusting me.” The heavyweight champion is yet to reveal the full tattoo but once he does, we’ll be the first ones to tell you!

His other two pieces are located on his chest and on his ribcage on the left side. So what are these two about? Let’s find out!

A peek at Jones’ existing tattoos

Jones’ chest tattoo that extends from his shoulder says “Philippians 4:13” which is a Bible verse as it seems. Line 13th of the 4th verse of the book of Philippians. It says,  “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This has a special significance in the fighter’s life as these verses were his sister Carmen’s favorite. Carmen, Jones’ sister, whom he also named one of his daughters after, sadly passed away back in 2000 and he got the tattoo in her honor.

Jon Jones also has a tattoo on his left ribcage which is written in Japanese kanji letters. It has the letters ‘㝊’ and ‘術’ written vertically. The first one means ‘to guide’ while the other means art or skill. It is also the ‘su’ sound of Jiu-Jitsu.

The characters also sound like Gaidojutsu which is a martial art that Jon Jones practices and was created by Greg Jackson. His brand new ink now is right behind his left ear and looks like it goes vertically towards his neck going down. However, the full tattoo is yet to be unveiled, meaning it could also go across towards his head.
