Jon Jones, without a doubt, has a phenomenal record in the UFC. But that one blemish, the DQ loss to Matt Hamill, has often acted as a constraint in labeling him as the greatest of all time. However, the good news is that the 12-6 elbow that led to Jones’ loss has been eradicated and he might be able to appeal for that decision to be overturned. But there’s bad news too, as now Hamill has put forth a demand as well.

This past Tuesday, the Association of Boxing Commissions cast a vote for a couple of rule changes in MMA. This included the removal of the band on the aforementioned elbow strike, which is set to take effect when we arrive in November 2024. In the wake of those changes, can we get to see Jon Jones fight his decade-old opponent? Matt Hamill seems to have put forth an argument for it.

Matt Hamill demands Dana White a rematch against Jon Jones

Jon Jones talking about removing that loss from his record on social media was bound to catch the attention of the one who defeated him, and so it did! Matt Hamill, 47, hung up his MMA gloves back in 2018, after almost a 13-year career in the sport. He’s primarily known to be the only one to beat the reigning UFC heavyweight champion, but an interesting fact that is he’s also the only deaf athlete in the history of MMA. Meanwhile, Hamill, after getting word of the 12-6 elbow rule removal decided to take a shot at Dana White on his latest Instagram post.

“Let’s cut this chase… [Dana White] I know you’re desperate to get [Jon Jones] an undefeated record. I see how you want to profit from that! Is also why you bail him out of all the other things,” wrote Matt Hamill. The 47-year-old demanded that Dana White give him the rematch if his career’s biggest win gets overturned to a no-contest. To do one better, Jon Jones’ former rival even offered to be the backup fighter for the Stipe Miocic fight if the former 2-time champion happens to pull out.

“How about a rematch?! I’ll be happy to fight him for a heavyweight title. If I beat him, I want a UFC belt. Let me know if Stipe Miocic backs out. I’ll take short notice, just remember he already lost to me,” Matt Hamill added. Despite the desperate move from the former UFC fighter, it is unlikely that Dana White will entertain him with a Jon Jones fight in his late 40s.

For some people, this demand might seem demented, but for Matt Hamill, it’s not. And this isn’t the first time he’s asking for a rematch against Jones. The last time he did, however, was back in 2019.

Hamill asked for ‘Bones’ almost five years ago

This isn’t the first time there’s been talks about Dana White trying to get rid of Jon Jones’ only loss on his record. This quest from the UFC CEO started back in  2019 when he went overboard by sending an appeal to the Nevada State Athletic Commission, but it was declined. Matt Hamill, like he did recently, inserted himself into that conversation, claiming that he’s down for another fight against ‘Bones’.

In a tweet, Matt Hamill stated, “[Joe Rogan] [Dana White] [Jon Jones] to supports overturning Jon Jones DQ loss to me to a no contest? Well I’m not complaining about jones in the past what he used illegal substance when he fought me.12/6 elbow is illegal. Back to back wins. How about rematch?” However, Jon Jones was in no mood to run it back with the 47-year-old, who simply stated, “Let’s set the record straight, definitely not looking for a rematch,” on Instagram.
