Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier had one of the most heated rivalries in the history of the UFC. It was arguably the biggest rivalry in the light heavyweight division, but some fans wonder what if it happened in another weight class? Jones recently answered a query that fans had about his chances of fighting Cormier as a heavyweight, and the answer was quite unsurprising.

Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier fought twice in the UFC as 205-pounders. As we all know, the consensus greatest of all time won both times. After the second loss, ‘DC’ would be asked if he thought there was any rivalry left between the two. Well, the Hall of Famer would respond by saying, “If you win both fights, there is no rivalry.” He understood that losing two fights in a row against the same opponent doesn’t really mean anything for a rivalry.

But how would things have been if it were a fight taking place at heavyweight? After all, Daniel Cormier is a former double champion, which includes him being a heavyweight champion as well. Now, Jon Jones is the heavyweight champion, and when asked about how they both would have fared against each other in the heaviest division in the promotion, ‘Bones’ claimed that ‘DC’ would have had a pretty bad night if they had fought each other at that weight.

“I believe I’d beat Daniel Cormier at heavyweight worse than I beat him at light heavyweight, said Jon Jones on Geoffrey Woo’s YouTube channel. “My speed has transferred over in a way that his hasn’t. I think I beat him up pretty worse at heavyweight. I kick harder.”

Well, that’s a pretty tall claim, but Jon Jones does have two wins against the former Olympian and double champion in the past. But did you know that ‘Bones’ refused to fight Daniel Cormier at heavyweight? Let’s take a look at that front.

Jon Jones once dismissed a fight against Daniel Cormier at heavyweight

The current undisputed heavyweight champion may have a couple of wins against Daniel Cormier, but he refused to fight him at heavyweight, which he spoke about back in 2019, when Cormier fought for the heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic. When asked if he’d consider fighting ‘DC’ at heavyweight, Jones simply shared an honest statement about the whole situation.

What’s your perspective on:

Would Jon Jones' speed and power truly crush Cormier at heavyweight, or is it just talk?

Have an interesting take?

Jon Jones believes if there’s anyone he could lose to, it’s Daniel Cormier. He was, at that time, enjoying and feeling comfortable as a 205lbs fighter. Given that Cormier was quite a big fighter, fighting him at heavyweight would have proven to be a wrong decision, according to ‘Bones’, and he wouldn’t make that mistake since ‘DC’ could have a power advantage there.

“I’m a realist. Daniel Cormier is a special athlete, and anyone can be beat. I think my greatest chance of losing would be to a guy like Daniel Cormier. We’d be giving him a power and strength advantage over me; it just doesn’t make sense,” Jon Jones told MMA veteran Dan Hardy. Well, now seems like a total 180-degree shift from Jon Jones, who thinks he could have beaten Cormier at heavyweight.

Well, that’s up to you to decide who wins. What do you think? Would Jon Jones have dominated Daniel Cormier at heavyweight? Drop your comments below.
