Former light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones does not seem to agree with the UFC. Khabib Nurmagomedov was moved up to the #1 pound-for-pound fighter spot in the rankings, and that has not settled well with him.

Having previously occupied the #1 spot before Khabib’s win, ‘Bones’ (26-1) feels that ‘The Eagle’ (29-0) is undeserving of being ranked at the top.

Khabib Nurmagomedov laid his gloves in the center of the octagon to retire with an undefeated 29-0 record. ‘The Eagle’ only had one request from the UFC, to rank him as the #1 P4P fighter on the planet.

The UFC obliged, and the new second-ranked fighter put out a tweet against the same. He wrote, “Unanimous decision over last-minute replacement Al Iaquinta to become champion. Conor McGregor is the only opponent he’s ever had that the general public actually knew. Catapulted my man to becoming the best ever, this is hilarious.”

While Jones gives Nurmagomedov credit, he clearly does not see the former lightweight fighter on his level. The former UFC lightweight champion is recognized as arguably the greatest talent the UFC has ever seen. He also holds the record for the UFC most title defenses, set at 14.

Jones holds only one loss in his MMA career; however, that resulted from disqualification due to illegal strikes in a fight that he dominated.

Jon Jones move up to Heavyweight

Jones has been the most dominant force of the light heavyweight division for the better part of a decade. He also holds the record for being the youngest ever UFC champion. Having beaten almost three generations of fighters since his UFC debut, the fans have always dreamt of ‘Bones’ moving up to heavyweight to take on new challenges. Now, years of speculation have finally come to fruition as ‘Bones’ is making the long-awaited move.

Being #2 on the pound-for-pound list will most likely be temporary for Jones. Khabib Nurmagomedov has seemingly retired after beating Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. The 33-year-old on the other hand has a lot of huge fights on his horizon.

Whether it be a super fight with Israel Adesanya or a title fight against the winner of Stipe-Ngannou, he still has a lot more time in the UFC. If ‘Bones’ can continue winning, there is no doubt he will be the greatest fighter the UFC has ever seen and become the P4P #1 fighter in the world.
