Reports indicate that his pacemaker went off, alerting his doctor, but by the time emergency responders arrived at his home in Syracuse, New York, it was too late. For several days, Jon Jones remained silent as he processed the loss. 

Eventually, the former UFC heavyweight champion addressed the tragedy on social media, sharing details about his brother’s funeral and asking fans and media for privacy during this painful period. In a touching moment, Jones later posted a photo from his nephew Arthur IV’s football game, signaling that life is slowly returning to normal for the family. Now, he is smiling.

What made Jon Jones smile?

A few days ago, Sleep Protein, a supplement brand co-owned by Marc Boudreau, took to Instagram to share a heartfelt throwback video that the author of the post says he directed, featuring the three Jones brothers. “Arthur Jones’ passing had me looking back at all the old footage of a 2014 Jones Bros photoshoot I directed,” the caption read. 

Reflecting on that time, the post added, “The love and respect the brothers had for each other was apparent in every take of the behind-the-scenes footage.” One particular memory stood out to the author of the post. He recalled asking the brothers who the leader among them was and received a prompt response.

“Without hesitation or joking around, both Jon and Chandler said with sincerity, ‘Arthur.’ When he spoke, they listened.” The post went on to thank the Jones brothers for allowing him to be a small part of their story, even if just for a moment. Jon Jones noticed the tribute and responded warmly, sharing his gratitude. 

“Bro, I cannot stop watching this video with a smile on my face. Can’t thank you enough,” Jones wrote. Regardless, Jones’ message of gratitude came just days before another powerful tribute from a fellow UFC champion.

Alex Pereira on Jones’ death

After Alex Pereira defeated Magomed Ankalaev at UFC 320, he had plans to call out Jon Jones for a fight. Instead, he used his post-fight moment to honor Jon Jones and his family following the tragic death of Jones’s older brother, Arthur Jones. “I had a whole speech prepared tonight,” Pereira said. 

“I talked to my team over it, but we got some news recently. Something’s happened, so I want to give my respect to Jon Jones and his whole family, and I want to ask everyone here and everyone at home to take a moment of silence for his brother.” The crowd quietly obliged as Pereira stood in respect.
