Curtis Blaydes reminded the heavyweight division of his presence. The top 5 UFC heavyweight fighter registered a clean knockout win over Chris Daukaus at UFC Columbus.
As someone who has always been so close yet so far, ‘Razor’ dominated and didn’t even attempt a single takedown in the contest.

The first round started with both UFC heavyweights proceeding cautiously with their stand-up game. Given the knowledge of both men’s styles, it may have favored the precision striker in Daukaus. However, Blaydes may have taken the upper hand in the round.
The opening round ended with an unintentional eye poke by Blaydes, prompting referee Herb Dean to check on the Philadelphian.
Blaydes continued in this manner and finished the fight quickly in the second. He landed a clean right and then punished the former police officer with ground and pound before Dean could intervene.
‘Razor’ was quick to call for an interim title shot against the Frenchman Ciryl Gane as soon as they handed him the mic at UFC Columbus – “I’m thinking I deserve an interim title shot against Gane. I want next.”
Should the UFC proceed with this, it may put a dent in the fans’ hopes of seeing Jon Jones make his return in the heavyweight division.
Can Curtis Blaydes fight Jon Jones in an interim title fight?
The heavyweight division of the UFC is currently in shambles with the champion Francis Ngannou out because of a knee surgery. Hence, the only thing that makes sense and is also the talk of the town is an interim title fight.

However, the big question is, who will compete for the interim belt? With Tai Tuivasa rising into the top 3 of the division after a brutal knockout of Derrick Lewis, it looks certain that he is one of the choices for an interim scrap. Blaydes, Gane, and Tuivasa are almost at crossroads, but the fourth name that comes into mind is that of UFC legend Jon Jones.

Jones certainly made it clear that he was coming for the heavyweight title. As Stipe Miocic is seemingly out of the fight scene with his new gig as a firefighter, the winner of Blaydes vs. Gane or Tuivasa vs. Gane against Jones might make the most sense for a title fight against ‘Bones’.
