UFC president Dana White announced Colby Covington as the next challenger to Leon Edwards‘ welterweight championship. However, Jorge Masvidal isn’t too pleased with the decision. He talked about his former friend-turned-bitter rival and made fun of ‘Chaos’ for calling the cops on him.

Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington share a lot of history together. Both fighters once trained in the same gym, stayed in the same apartment as roommates, and even cornered each other during some of their bouts. But things soon became sour as both fighters are now publicly known to hate each other and they even got in a brawl in Miami last year.

‘Gamebred’ had some harsh words for Covington in a recent episode of ‘The MMA Hour’ with famous combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani. He shared his thoughts on White’s decision to give Colby Covington a title shot. He said, “I love Dana [White], but Dana says a lot of things, man. History says one thing. Whoever makes the most noise when they fight, whoever f****** sells the most pay-per-views and whoever fans wanna see at the end of the day, that’s how you get the title shot.”

Jorge Masvidal also mentions that he thought only the champion can choose his opponents and even took a dig at Colby Covington as always. “As I recall, champions have called the shots, and Colby [Covington] is only a champion at calling the cops at me. That b*tch, p***y a** motherf*****.”

‘Gamebred’ aiming to face Leon Edwards for the championship

Masvidal may have a lot of disdain for his former friend and current bitter rival. But that has not stopped him from making his own plans known. The BMF of the UFC told Helwani that he was looking forward to beating Gilbert Burns to get to Leon Edwards. He said, “I’m just gonna continue to do me. I am gonna go out there and break f****** Gilbert’s face and then Leon is going to call my name out and I’m gonna go fight Leon for his belt and that’s it.”

‘Gamebred’ also mentions that he will fight Covington again in the future. “Colby can just sit in the time-out box until I call his a** up to fight me again.” It still looks like Jorge Masvidal has some unfinished business with the former interim UFC welterweight champion.

Masvidal’s fight against Gilbert Burns is an exciting, yet important, fight that may bring the next title challenger to the fore. Leon Edwards has mentioned many times that he wished to fight ‘Gamebred’ after that infamous sucker punch almost four years ago. We will have to wait and see what transpires in the following months to come.
