The UFC 287 event came to a close with a thrilling finale, which saw Jorge Masvidal‘s career come to an abrupt end. Masvidal fought his last bout against Gilbert Burns in his hometown of Miami, but unfortunately, it did not end in his favor. Despite the hometown advantage, ‘Gamebred’ lost the fight to Burns and took the opportunity to announce his retirement in front of the cheering audience at the Miami-Dade arena. However, the moment of retirement was short-lived as Burns accused Masvidal of cheating during the match, which did not sit well with the 38-year-old fighter.

Masvidal was quick to fire back at the Brazilian’s accusations, saying that he fought fair and square during the bout. The back and forth between the two fighters continued, with Burns standing by his allegations, and Masvidal maintaining his innocence. However, Burns has now decided to bury the hatchet and put his claims to rest.

Burns has released an apology to Jorge Masvidal, admitting that he may have been mistaken in his accusations. The fighter took to Twitter and released a video message, talking about having accused Masvidal of things he cannot prove.

The Brazilian said, “I just would like to take the moment to apologize to Jorge ‘Gambred’ Masvidal and his team. The things that I said after the fight, on the press conference in the UFC 287. I said that he passed lotion and this and that, and I said it too much, and I cannot prove that. And I would like to send my apologies to Jorge and his team.”

He added, “I hope he accepts my apologies. And I think what I did was wrong. I have no proof that he did that and I wanna take nothing away from him. The guy is a warrior, 52 pro fights. I hope he have a good retirement and I hope he accepts my apology.”

With that, the Brazilian has accepted to have been mistaken and hopes for peace now. On the other hand, Masvidal has now retired from the UFC. But he still is open to something interesting if that comes.

During an interview with Ariel Helwani, the host asked Masvidal about what the future holds for him. Responding to this, ‘Gamebred’ shared some interesting thoughts.

“It also depends on the type of shape that I’m in and everything you know, everything will be like, especially from this point going forward. But I’m not gonna say no to it, something crazy came about, yeah, I would entertain it. And obviously first and foremost I’d have to get the UFC’s permission you know,” said the 38-year-old.
