To what extent can someone go to meet their idol? Well, some people will cross boundaries just to get a moment with the person they look up to. In the case of Jorge Masvidal, he actually broke the COVID-19 protocols to meet the President of the United States, Donald Trump. And he has a pretty wild story behind it.

Masvidal has always been one of Trump’s most vocal supporters, right alongside his bitter rival Colby Covington. Back in the UFC, the two practically treated it like a competition to become the former POTUS’s favorite fighter. So you can imagine how meaningful any meeting with Trump would be, especially for ‘Gamebred’.  Although the former welterweight title challengers met the U.S. President several times during their UFC runs. But nothing tops the story Masvidal shared about meeting the President during the pandemic.

Jorge Masvidal reveals a story of meeting Donald Trump during the COVID times

‘Gamebred’ told Henry Cejudo at the Death Row MMA podcast, “I’ll tell you a story real quick. The lady in charge, this is prime time Corona. Everybody got the mask on, with ET shield, right? So, there was one lady, she doesn’t work for Trump no more. She kept coming up to me, and she said, ‘Hey, under no circumstances, touch the president or go near him, put your hand out, hug him, kiss him, nothing. Don’t touch him.”

Masvidal didn’t reveal exactly which event he was talking about. But most likely, he meant the second fight against Kamaru Usman at UFC 261, on April 24, 2021, in Jacksonville, when the promotion held its first full-capacity event just as the pandemic started to loosen its grip.

With that event in mind, the Florida native explained how that lady, who kept blocking him from getting close to Trump, stood there repeating her instructions in the ‘most annoying’ way possible. After that, when the President of the United States finally arrived, Masvidal described the moment he got to meet Donald Trump. As soon as they approached each other, they both instinctively put their hands forward and fist-bumped like old friends.

Masvidal further added at the Death Row podcast, “So, the president comes out glowing. I see his f— aura man. As he opened that door, I see his f— aura. This dude just shining, brother… He’s coming down the thing. And the Mayor of Miami is right there on his right-hand side immediately. You know what Trump does? He looks at him… Then he walks right to me and you know what he does? That boy was like this (fist bump).”

That was definitely an interesting story of the former title challenger meeting his idol. But with the UFC’s White House plan on the horizon, Masvidal also used the moment to pitch himself for one more showdown to settle his unfinished business with another bitter rival, who also happens to be British.

‘Gamebred’ calls out Leon Edwards for a UFC White House Clash

Before Jorge Masvidal retired from the UFC, his matchup with former welterweight champion Leon Edwards was one of the grudge fights fans never got to see. Both of them got involved in a massive backstage brawl after Masvidal defeated Darren Till in his hometown in 2019. Since that moment, they have unfinished business. Now, as the promotion looks to move one step closer to the still unofficial White House event, ‘Gamebred’ wants to finally settle that score.

In a clip shared by Championship Rounds on X, Masvidal said, “Leon, if you’re watching this, I’ll beat the f— out of you at the White House. Leon, I will beat the f—— dog s— out of you, just like America kicked England’s a— when they were trying to take over our s—, I’m gonna send you back the same way. Let them make a mistake and send you to represent England, I will crash that party.”

Currently, Leon Edwards is scheduled to face Carlos Prates at UFC 322, and most likely, ‘Rocky’ plans to march toward reclaiming the welterweight title. However, if he actually gets interested in facing Masvidal at UFC White House, that would definitely steal the spotlight, given their history.

That said, do you think Jorge Masvidal will break his retirement to fight in front of Donald Trump at UFC White House? Let us know in the comments section below.
