UFC welterweight Jorge Masvidal’s coach Mike Brown spoke to MMA Junkie and opened up on the Miami native’s future. Brown who’s the spearhead at American Top Team has been in the corner for several notable fighters, including Dustin Poirier. Mike Brown has plenty of years invested in the fight game, and he knows the landscape of the current climate.

Brown spoke out on Masvidal’s next fight and opined on what lies ahead for ‘Gamebred’. Jorge Masvidal last fought at UFC 251 in July when he lost a lopsided decision to Kamaru Usman for championship gold. Prior to the loss, he had racked up the 2019 Fighter of the Year’ honors for a slew of KO/TKO wins.

Jorge Masvidal’s coach looks ahead

Mike Brown touched on Masvidal’s star power and believes that his next fight should undoubtedly be for a huge paycheck. From his point of view, Masvidal has paid his dues and is the second biggest star in the company after Conor McGregor. It’s hard to deny Browns’ claim based on the fan response and numbers that Jorge pulls in.

He said, “He’s finally in a place where he can make big money, and it should be something very big. It should be a title fight. It should be one of the biggest names in the sport. They should sell pay-per-views. It’s not a co-main event on a Fight Night.”

“This should be a pay-per-view headliner against another equally big draw, and I think Jorge is probably the second-biggest draw in the sport probably to Conor (McGregor), honestly. And hopefully, he is rewarded for what he’s done and what he’s created and is compensated appropriately.”

“Jorge is in a place he has carved his own path and put himself in a position more deserved than anybody,” Brown added. “This guy’s like a 50-fight veteran fought everybody in the world for so long and done it all, I think it will be a very big fight. In his mind, I think he’s right. He wants somebody that will be very big, very entertaining, and where he gets the most money out of it.”

305’s favorite son still doesn’t have a fight booked, however, he’s targeting a return to action somewhere around April. There’s no clear cut opponent who has been laid out, however, it’s undoubtedly going to be a huge name. There is no shortage of fighters who will want to challenge ‘Gamebred’ for his coveted ‘BMF’ strap.
