UFC lightweight Justin Gaethje spoke to the Schmo in the weeks leading up to his fight against Michael Chandler. Both men were in talks to fight each other for a meaningful period of time, and the bout finally came to fruition. They will be one of the main draws at UFC 268, the UFC’s annual return to Madison Square Garden.

Moreover, fans have been invested in this contest because both men have gone back and forth on social media. There doesn’t seem to be much love lost between the top-ranked lightweights who will duke it out on Fight Night. The stakes are high for his one as the winner will most likely go on to contest for UFC gold.

Justin Gaethje wants all the smoke

Gaethje was asked to expand on his dynamic with Chandler over the course of their association. ‘The Highlight’ began his response in a rather complementary manner, however, things quickly took a turn for the worst. Gaethje blasted Chandler by insinuating he couldn’t stand and trade with him if he ended up going for a takedown.

“Nothing has changed since then [first meeting Chandler]. I’ve always known, watching his Bellator fights, watching his fight with Eddie Alvarez, those two-three fights, his fights with Will Brooks; the dude comes to fight. He loves fighting just as much as me.”

“Styles makes match-ups and this is a stylistic match-up for the fans. I mean, someone is going to get knocked out, unless he turns into a b**ch and tries to turn this into a wrestling match the whole time.”

‘He’s talking about timid souls taking a step backwards. He’s going to be a timid soul when he starts shooting for legs because he doesn’t like the power.”

By the tenor of the conversation, it’s clear that Justin Gaethje can’t wait to get his hands on Michael Chandler. The former interim champion believes that Chandler was brought over from Bellator MMA with a silver spoon in his mouth and gifted opportunities. He has certainly talked up a big game before the fight, and knowing Justin Gaethje, he will be all-in to deliver.
