Did you watch ‘Road House’ yet? If you did, then you must have noticed Jake Gyllenhaal’s ‘Elwood Dalton’ walking out to Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ for his UFC bout. Not a bad tune to set the mood for a beat down, right? Reel-life BMF Dalton chose Metallica, so what does our real-life BMF Justin Gaethje use to set the mood for his violent highlight reel fights?

Gaethje could probably have been fighting for the lightweight title in June if he wasn’t scheduled to fight former featherweight champion Max Holloway at UFC 300 on April 13. The latter will move up to 155 lbs for the second time in his career to fight for ‘The Human Highlight’s BMF title – a belt that is more about the repute and persona of the belt holder rather than his resume. Ahead of this all-important fight, let us take a look at the current BMF Gaethje’s walkout songs.

Justin Gaethje won the resurrected BMF title in his UFC 291 bout against Dustin Poirier last year, becoming just the second person to hold the largely ceremonial title. ‘The Human Highlight’ lived up to his moniker and delivered a picture-perfect head-kick knockout of Poirier in the second round to win the title in style and make an emphatic case for a title shot.

For the bout, Justin Gaethje chose the neo-reggae song, ‘Fallen Kings’ by the band Tribal Seeds, reflecting his calm and composed demeanor which is a contrast to his aggressive fighting style. However, this did not deter him from delivering a violent knockout against ‘Diamond’.

A rematch to their thrilling 2018 clash, which saw Poirier emerge victorious after four rounds of absolute war and high-level striking masterclass between two lightweights, Poirier and Gaethje, their UFC 291 main event clash was an exciting albeit more one-sided and brief affair.

But this is not the only walkout song that Gaethje has used. Just like his fighting style, the Arizona native mixes up his tunes in his choice of entrance themes. Let’s explore Gaethje’s music taste as reflected in his choice of entrance music for his other fights.

Other walkout songs Justin Gaethje has used

Before his UFC 291 clash against Poirier, Justin Gaethje fought up-and-coming lightweight prospect Rafael Fiziev at UFC 286 in a thrilling bout which showed Gaethje’s technical prowess over three rounds and overcome adversity, especially in the third round to scrape through a majority decision victory over the Azerbaijani. ‘The Human Highlight’ walked out to ‘Ready’ by Alborosie feat. Jo Mersa Marley.

While Gaethje will most certainly find himself fighting for the title soon if he wins at UFC 300, his two previous title shots didn’t pan out well and saw him get submitted by Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 254 and Charles Oliveira at UFC 274 respectively. His outing against Oliveira at UFC 274 was especially underwhelming as he lost in the first round. The Arizona native had chosen to walk out to the song ‘El Rey’ by Vicente Fernandez for his hometown entrance.

But now, Gaethje is back to winning ways again, and a win against Max Holloway at UFC 300 will almost definitely see him fight for the title in the near future. However, this fight will ensure he cannot fight in June when champion Islam Makhachev wants to fight again and has even offered the bout to Dustin Poirier despite saying ‘The Diamond’ doesn’t deserve the fight.

The Dagestani and his manager have spoken previously about wanting to fight Gaethje next, but the timing doesn’t work out. While Gaethje is going into his UFC 300 bout against ‘Blessed’ the heavy favorite, Holloway is among the greatest to ever do it, and may surprise the Arizona native and dash his title aspirations for now maybe even for good.
