In a recent interview with Triple C, ‘The Schmo’ invited the Olympian to share his thoughts on the potential bout between Kamaru Usman and Khamzat Chimaev. Cejudo offered a crucial piece of advice – rather a condition, for Usman to follow if he intends to reclaim the belt.

When probed about the situation, Cejudo expressed his reservations – particularly about the weight division. He believed that Usman should not take the fight at the 185-pound weight class. Cejudo clarified – “…not that I don’t have faith in Kamaru…I just – Khamzat’s a big[fighter]. To me, he’s even a big 85’ er!”

According to Cejudo, Chimaev was a big fighter, even for the 185-pound division. He offered a fair solution to this, suggesting the only condition in which Usman should take the fight. He proposed,

“Make them[Usman and Chimaev] go down to 170 – Like they could come down to 170 and let’s make it fair… the last thing you want to do is dabble and go up in weight divisions… I just don’t think that’s a smart move.”

In order to maximize Usman’s chances of winning the belt. He cautioned Usman against dabbling in weight divisions – calling it an ‘unwise move.’

However, Cejudo accepted that money is a huge motivation in a fighter’s decision-making process. Ultimately, it would depend on Usman’s motivation – money or the title.
