He claimed his potential bout with the Mexican will eclipse the 2017 contest in terms of a fight. In a recent interview with The Schmo, the UFC welterweight champion said, “We know who the pound-for-pound best fighter in the world in mixed martial arts is.”

“And we know who the pound-for-pound best fighter in boxing is. I think that’s an entertainment and I think that’s a fight that the fans need to see,” Usman added.

“This is not a McGregor vs. Mayweather. However great that spectacle was, it was a spectacle. They want to see a fight? Canelo Alvarez vs. me. We both ready to bang. And of course, I have got the co**nes to step into the boxing ring and challenge.”

As of now, Usman and Alvarez are very confident that the fight will happen. However, this match-up might be for the future as both men have fights in their respective verticals.

Kamaru Usman is focused on the rematch with Leon Edwards

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has defeated almost every fighter on the welterweight roster. In fact, he has beaten the likes of Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington twice in his career.

Hence, there are only a few names that could match up against the champion for the title next. One of them is the British fighter, Leon Edwards. ‘Rocky,’ with a nine-fight undefeated streak, has cemented his name as the next viable title contender.

Even though the fight is not official yet, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ claimed he is focused on Edwards for his next title defense. In an interview with ESPN MMA, Usman said, “Right now, my focus is on Leon Edwards because he’s the clear contender.”

“Yeah, right now, my focus is on him. But don’t, you know, at the end of the day this is not just my decision, Dana White is the greatest at what he does. So this has to do with him as well.”

‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has previously defeated ‘Rocky’ in 2015. However, as both men have improved in the years since then, their rematch will be an absolute banger.
