The UFC’s pound-for-pound king Kamaru Usman is one of the greatest fighters in the history of MMA. No one in the UFC has ever defeated Usman inside the octagon.
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has smashed many records at the UFC. He is arguably one of the biggest and most active stars in the promotion right now. Usman has beaten the biggest names in the promotion. However, there is one fight that he hasn’t seen yet, which might be next for him. Conor McGregor is eyeing the belt on Usman’s waist for his UFC return.
In a recent interview, the pound-for-pound king took a dig at McGregor and hinted that he is preparing for the bout.

Usman said, ” my fitness goals, be as fit as possible. I want to be lean but also be able to have the endurance to go five rounds in any given moment. Because you never know when somebody with a loud mouth maybe an Irish accent might want to try you. So sometimes you have to go in on that drop off a dime and remind them why you are the pound-for-pound king in the world.”

According to reports, Kamaru Usman will ‘100 percent’ be stepping back into the octagon this year. Meanwhile, McGregor was supposed to return this year as well, after taking time off to heal from the injury he incurred against Dustin Poirier.

Usman made his fifth successful title defense last year when he took on the former interim champion Colby Covington at UFC 268. Usman comfortably won the bout via unanimous decision and retained his belt.
However, the champion did incur a serious hand injury in his bout, which will keep him sidelined from fighting for the coming months. He recently had an interview in which he spoke about his injury and his return to the UFC after he heals.

Usman said ” I was hoping was for the doctor to say, ‘Hey, all right, back to full-go.’ But he expressed to me that this was a tendon issue. The issue with tendons is there is no blood flow there, especially when they’re in your hands. So it takes a lot longer”

“If I don’t give it the appropriate time to heal properly, then I’m just going to split that right (hand) back open and I’m out for a whole year, potentially worse,” The champion continued, “(I could) do irreparable damage to where I couldn’t potentially fight again. That’s not a chance I’m willing to take right now. I love my career.”
