Kamaru Usman defended his welterweight title for the fourth time when he defeated Jorge Masvidal at the UFC 261 main event. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ knocked out Masvidal in the second round to claim the victory.

Everyone expected this fight to be one of the best of the year, and therefore there was much buildup before the fight. The fight had to be interesting, as both the fighters have different styles and had taken different paths to the fight.

While Usman has been fighting and defending his championship for the past 2 years. Masvidal is an MMA veteran who rose to prominence with his 3 KO victories in 2019. Among which was the quickest ever KO that Masvidal had against Ben Askren. All this had catapulted ‘Gamebred’ to superstar status.

During the post-fight conference Usman was asked his views on the same, He said, “Ok, there is something I just wanna touch on about that. You know I’m growing in this sport and I’m growing with integrity. I worked my ass off to get to the point I am.”

Usman continued, “You know a lot has been made about this guy being a superstar. I understand you know more power to him. But for myself I am all those things as well, you know I just show it in a different way.”

Kamaru Usman believes in letting his work do the talking

Usman is the sort of person who doesn’t believe in showing off with material rather he lets his work do the talking. During the interview, ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ talked about the same.

He said, “You know leading up to this fight I didn’t have to show me flying in on a private jet or this car or that care. I like nice things to don’t get me wrong, but I need to show people that it’s important for them to see the work that goes behind it.”

The UFC Welterweight champion clearly believes he deserves everything he has and talked about how he has worked hard to achieve everything.

“I worked for the shot to deserve all those nice things. You know I might have not come in a private jet, but I’m damn sure leaving in one.”

Kamaru Usman’s performance inside the Octagon was fantastic. The fighter showed everyone why he is the champion and is considered one of the best fighters of all time. For now, Usman will take some time off from the Octagon, but seeing his performance at UFC 261 we as fans are longing to see the champion back in action.
