The thing about time is that it turns glory to dust. Championship wins, belts, and other accomplishments – they all start to dwindle as one’s hair turns grey. UFC fighters, in their primes, are a sight to see – confident, quick, and vicious. One such legendary fighter, whose name is known by every who followed the sport since its inception, recently uploaded a heart-wrenching video on Instagram.

The first UFC heavyweight champion, champion of UFC 10 and UFC 11 tournaments Mark Coleman, had taken a decision to come out of retirement and to fans’ surprise had signed on with Celebrity Boxing. He had uploaded a video of himself shadow boxing but his fragility was apparent as he stumbled to find his footing.

When the fans saw Mark Coleman in an Octagon, sparring and shadowboxing, they expressed their concerns for the fighter. Clearly old age had gotten the better of him as he nearly fell about 5 seconds into the video. While most people were respectful in deterring the fighter from entering the ring again, some comments were not as mindful.

Recently, the retired UFC fighter uploaded a video where he wrote, “It’s a wrap I quit the trolls had a little bit to do with it but when my fans let me know I was too old to fair to slow no skill amateur hour I surrender and to my fans that were with me a part of me Still thinks I can do it.” The caption was long and it was difficult to read the entire caption without feeling sorry for the legendary fighter. He went on to talk about his family trying to dissuade him from fighting again and even openly declared that he needed a job. The video was difficult to watch.

Fans immediately sought to provide some reassurance and comfort to Coleman. “It takes a man to admit he made a mistake man. You didn’t let your ego make things worse and that is huge for a guy in recovery.”, said one. Another commented, “Brother your my all time favourite original UFC fighter I used to only use you in the UFC game! Your a living legend”.

Soon after, others followed suit as one by one comments like, “Whatever you want to do we will support you big man. Takes guts to be honest on the internet. Hammer house for life brother”, “You are not a joke man, you could kick any of our asses. You are a legend”, and “You are the champ, man. This gonna be forever. Nobody can take it from you!” started coming in.

The internet spared no expense in making sure the retired fighter knew he wasn’t alone and he wasn’t forgotten. “You’re an inspiration Champ, all the best!!!” read one comment; “Man this hurts. We love you champ. Keep your chin up.” read another. One fan reiterated everyone’s feelings saying, “Mark coleman the Ground and pound God u will always be remembered ! The og fans can never forget !!“.

Mark Coleman – From UFC Heavyweight Champ to Celebrity Boxing

Mark Coleman has a record in the UFC that is worthy of him being called a legend. A true fighter in his own right, he has a really impressive record of 16-10-0. On March 1, 2008, the former UFC champ was inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame and at the age of 48, through a mere Facebook announcement, declared his retirement from the world of MMA. Needless to say, the fans were excited to see him back in action, but the concern was real. Fans were really disheartened to learn that the 58-year-old UFC legend signed a contract with Celebrity Boxing.
