The world of combat sports has always co-existed alongside major controversies. Be it cycling or even MMA, the use and abuse of steroids and performance-enhancing drugs has always been a concern that officiators have been dealing with for a really long time. MMA legend and BJJ GOAT Gordon ‘King’ Ryan is one athlete who has always found himself in the eye of this tornado.

Although Ryan is still considered to be one of the greatest BJJ artists of the modern era, his recent decline in health has fans worried. His impressive professional record has often crumbled under the weight of heavy steroid abuse allegations. In fact, when Ryan came down with a severe throat infection and had to be hospitalized, there was cause for concern due to excessive antibiotic usage.

Gordon Ryan had posted a picture on Instagram where he was looking frail and weak. The fans were really worried to see ‘The King’ in a diminished form after a severe case of strep throat.

The fighter had just returned from Abu Dhabi and had to be hospitalized immediately. According to sources, his throat has swollen up and the antibiotics that were being administered were having little to no effect.

With the whole world concerned for Ryan and his slender physique, Gordon Ryan shocked the world as he recently posted a picture where he looked ripped and ready to go. This drastic body transformation sparked rumors of Ryan juicing again.

As Ryan shared a recent clip of him training with a much bigger opponent, he had a few high-profile combat sport figures react to it.

The BJJ giant recently posted a video on Instagram where he is seen wrestling and grappling with another athlete, who seems slightly bigger than him in size. The caption of the post read: “6ft 2 215lbs vs 6 ft 4 285 lbs. Win, because you know more, not because you’re more physically imposing, but also.. be physically imposing because strength is never a weakness.

The fans spoke their minds through their comments and while some had only good things to say, others were not afraid to call him out either.

UFC commentator Joe Rogan‘s comment was a mere goat emoji, which suggests that Rogan considered Ryan the GOAT. UFC legend and fan favorite BJ Penn also joined the comment section as he said, “I’m glad you’re here @gordonlovesjiujitsu keeping jiujitsu on top of the world“. 

Two fans commented appreciating the video and Gordon Ryan’s skills as a martial artist. “So slick“, said one while another said, “Makes me want to start rolling again“. “Where can we watch this match @gordonlovesjiujitsu?” asked one fan who seemed intrigued by the video while another asked, “When are you competing again?“.

However, not all comments were as amicable. One fan took a jibe at him, alluding to his alleged steroid abuse. “Or take more [syringe emoji]“, read his comment. Another person went berserk as he heavily criticized Ryan by commenting, “Only in American someone like u can be considered an example of sports … fuck*** cheater full of juice.

Suffice it to say, the attitude of a lot of fans against Ryan remains the same. Knowing Ryan’s persona, he is not going to concede an inch to haters either. Regardless, all eyes will be on the former ADCC champion as he steps on the mat at UFC Fight Pass Invitational.
