Former UFC featherweight title challenger Kenny Florian talked to Jon Anik in their podcast recently. Florian broke some huge news. According to him, UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov is set to fight the legendary Georges St-Pierre next. Florian said he had many coaches telling him that ‘Rush’ is actually training for a fight against the Russian.
The speculation of a super-fight between the legendary champions has been going on for a long time now. While speaking to Anik, Florian said, “I heard some pretty crazy news over the weekend. I won’t say exactly where it’s from, but it’s from a well-known coach, who apparently is aware of a fight between Khabib Nurmagomedov and a legend in the UFC, a former two time champion, George St. Pierre.
“So supposedly that is a fight that I don’t know if it’s confirmed, but it is a fight that George might be getting ready for and is preparing for.

“I don’t think he would be getting ready for that or be telling people that he’s going to be getting ready for a big fight unless it was actually happening. And for me, I think the only fight that Khabib Nurmagomedov would come back for would be against a legend of that kind of stature, a guy who did many of the similar things that he did, and you can kind of build it as a fight between two of the biggest takedown monsters in UFC,” he added.
Nurmagomedov‘s manager, Ali Abdelaziz, also tweeted saying the rumors are true, and the Dagestani is indeed preparing for the Canadian. But he later deleted the tweet and denied those claims.

Is Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Georges St-Pierre really happening?
It looked unlikely that a 39-year-old St-Pierre would ever return to the Octagon. But he is still a supreme athlete and with the recent leaks it seems that a bout is not improbable. If the bout actually materializes, it can be the biggest fight in the history of the promotion.
