Kevin Holland was the busiest fighter in 2020. After capping off the year with a win over Jacare Souza, Holland already has his next opponent in his mind. He expressed his desire to fight Derek Brunson. Holland wishes to stay even more active next year and hence, he wants to fight Brunson as early as in January next month.
Despite the unprecedented nature of this year, Holland stepped into the Octagon five times. He won on all occasions and is a dark horse in the race for ‘Fighter of the Year’ candidate. ‘Trailblazer’ wishes to one-up his number of wins next year by going 6-0 in 2021. Therefore, he has to begin as early as possible.

With his eyes set on Brunson as his next opponent, Holland is now letting everyone know that he wishes to fight on January 30. After a page on Instagram posted that Brunson vs Holland will take place next month, the latter claimed that he didn’t have an idea where it was coming from. However, that doesn’t mean he doesn’t like the date.
On his Instagram story, Holland seemed very positive about fighting in late January.
Kevin Holland and Derek Brunson have a bit of history as well
Speaking to ESPN last week, Holland went off on the number seven ranked UFC middleweight. He criticized Brunson’s striking, claiming that he finds it ‘funny’, and added that it was ‘awkward and disrespectful’. He also claimed that the two have history between them, and hence, he wants to settle it out in the Octagon.
When Brunson was about to go up against Adesanya, he wanted Holland to help him. However, the latter declined, which to a bit of a back-and-forth between the two.

Brunson is riding one of the best stretches of his fighting career after winning three back-to-back fights. Four out of his five losses in the UFC have come against either champions or former title challengers. The decision of moving to Sanford MMA under Henri Hooft has been doing wonders for him. If he stops the run of Kevin Holland, he will probably break into the top five of the division.
