UFC middleweight contender, Kevin Holland, spoke to the media ahead of his first main event against veteran Derek Brunson. The bout is Holland’s first opportunity to truly make a meaningful jump towards actualizing his goal of becoming an undisputed champion. Derek Brunson has traditionally been a litmus test for future champions and ‘The Trailblazer’ is sure to get tested.

The 185-pound champion, Israel Adesanya, moved up recently in a failed attempted to capture light heavyweight gold. With the experiment over with, Israel Adesanya is back down to re-consolidate himself as the threat he’s proven to be. Furthermore, he’s got plenty of exciting challenges lying ahead and Kevin Holland hopes to figure into that conversation.

Kevin Holland takes aim and fires at Israel Adesanya

‘Big Mouth’ Holland stood true to form during his media interview and berated Adesanya for his unsuccessful attempt at becoming ‘champ-champ. He broke down Izzy’s overall approach and was comprehensive in his analysis.

Holland said, “I think that he said he didn’t try to put on weight, but I think that he put on weight. He may have came in at 200 pounds, I think that he did a normal weight cut which was smart… He looked a little slower than he normally does right? Usually, he’s faster than that…He got beat in the striking aspect, he got beat in the grappling aspect. He got beat.”

‘The Trailblazer’: Relentless verbal assault

Holland looked at Adesanya’s catalog of combat and brought up that he’s lost before. Apart from a decision loss in MMA, Israel Adesanya has 5 defeats in kickboxing and one defeat in boxing. Kevin Holland believes these defeats make ‘Izzy’ a ‘true loser’ in every sense of the word.

‘Trailblazer’ said, “It’s like in a lot of other sports when you’re the champ and you lose you’re no longer than champ anymore. Granted, he went up a weight class, but sh*t the dude lost. Is there any other fighter right now that has done just about every combat sport and lost in every combat sport? Is there? So, I guess you can say he’s a true loser.”

Fight fans will have their eye on a possible response from Adesanya, who isn’t one to let such remarks slide easily. Not to mention, Holland is clearly sowing the seeds for a potential fight that is possibly on the cards. It all boils down to whether Kevin Holland can keep up his momentum and etch some more marquee wins.
