Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is eyeing a comeback to the Octagon. The AKA trainee is currently training with his gym partner and former UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The two former champions are long-time friends, and the duo shared banter between them.
Rockhold was playing golf on a lawn, which Nurmagomedov posted in his story. “Luke, this game is for lazy people. Come on,” Nurmagomedov can be heard saying to Rockhold. MMA fans may understand why a former UFC champion like Nurmagomedov finds golf as a lazy people’s sport, especially considering his scary pace during his fighting days.

Nurmagomedov also took to Instagram to post photos of him training with Rockhold. The former middleweight champion himself acknowledged that fact and said he is counting on ‘The Eagle’ to prepare him ahead of his return.
“Been too long Champ… I mean coach,” wrote Rockhold on Twitter. Nurmagomedov later posted a photo of him back in the famous American Kickboxing Academy, where he was sitting beside Rockhold. Other fighters of the Dagestani contingent are also captured in the photograph.
This type of commitment from Nurmagomedov is really appreciable, especially considering he is currently retired from the sport. And also with the likes of Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez retired from MMA, Rockhold is the only former UFC champion still looking for a scrap from the AKA gym.
What’s next for Luke Rockhold?
Rockhold is an elite fighter. However, he has dropped 3 of his last 4 fights by knockout, including his UFC 199 loss to Michael Bisping. Rockhold has never been the same fighter since losing his middleweight belt to ‘The Count‘. A knockout loss to Yoel Romero prompted the former champion to move up a division to the light-heavyweight.

However, his divisional debut didn’t go according to plan as current champion Jan Blachowicz knocked him out in a devastating fashion at UFC 239. One might argue that it’s his decision-making that has caused his downfall rather than his skills.
Whether Nurmagomedov, the coach, can change that, will be known once Rockhold returns to action.
