The Dagestani legend Khabib Nurmagomedov is known for primarily two things: his dominance in the Octagon and his principles as a champion. ‘The Eagle,’ despite staying in the United States for so long, still considers his native Dagestan as the best place for him.
In a short documentary that surfaced back in 2018, we can follow Nurmagomedov’s ancient story. This was before he became the promoter of Eagle Fighting Championships and even way before he became the Lightweight champion.

The Dagestani fighter had a heart of Gold even before wearing the gold. For the former lightweight champion, his family comes first.
In that documentary, ‘The Eagle’ gave fans a throwback where he is still 26-0. Although celebrated in the UFC, he still missed his home and his roots. “I can afford to live in the USA or other places with a much higher level of life compared to Dagestan. You ask, why I don’t do this? These people are my relatives, my family, my parents. I won’t find them overseas.”, said ‘The Eagle.’
After winning huge fights with big paydays, Nurmagomedov started his Eagle FC after retirement. He has earned himself a good load of fortune. But he believes, “No matter where you are at the moment- in Dagestan or in Las Vegas, you’ve got to remember your roots and your family. You can’t let them down.”

Khabib Nurmagomedov has been training for as long as he can remember himself
Late Mr. Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, Khabib’s father, has played a crucial part in his life as his mentor, wrestling coach and also his advisor. Khabib has acknowledged him as his biggest support in various interviews, shows and post fights.
“I was raised in a Sports family. My father is a coach. So I’ve been training for as long as I remember myself. My dad used to train fellow villagers. We lived on the ground floor and the Gym was also there.” – said Khabib.

‘The Eagle’ credits his father for training him since his childhood days. Khabib also pays gratitude to his tough life in the village, which strengthened him and made him more resilient.
“Here they’ve always worked to survive… They would wake up in the morning with the sunrise and start working. You naturally become a disciplined person who values time and gets used to hard work.” Khabib believes.
