UFC legend Khabib Nurmagomedov, known for his straightforward demeanor, recently shared an interesting incident. The incident revolved around a gender-neutral restroom encounter, which took place when the Dagestani fighter visited a coffee shop last week.

At an event in Las Vegas, Khabib shed light on his confusion when faced with a concept foreign to his upbringing in the remote area of Dagestan. In a culture where gender-neutral bathrooms are far from the norm, Khabib recounted his recent trip to California.

Khabib Nurmagomedov found himself in a rather unprecedented situation during his recent visit to California just a couple of weeks ago. Reminiscing the incident, Khabib said, “First time in my life, a couple weeks ago, and I was in California. I was like on a coffee shop, and I really wanted to go bathroom. It’s like, ‘Can I go bathroom?’ Okay, they told me, ‘Code…”

Khabib’s words reflected his confusion as he encountered the idea of all-gender restrooms. Coming from a region that adheres to a binary gender understanding—where male and female are the only recognized genders—Khabib found himself in a perplexing situation. He continued, “It’s like, what is this, where do I have to go? First time I see… I stop, like… I stay like 5 seconds, and I am like, where is women, where is men? I look around. (knocking) Anybody inside? Okay… it’s like, I don’t know.”
