Khabib Nurmagomedov has been in the news recently for several reasons which include the reports of him acquiring the Gorilla Fighting Championship. The UFC lightweight champion has made the deal official in a press conference. On top of it, he has also highlighted the biggest factor that will decide if he returns to the Octagon or not.
Khabib Nurmagomedov has bought Gorilla Fighting Championship for about a million dollars. The new ownership will change the name of the promotion will to Eagle Fighting Championship. On top of it, Nurmagomedov also talked about the condition on which he can return to the UFC.
As per Chisanga Malata on Twitter, the UFC 155-pound champ has said that his return to the Octagon depends on his mother. If his mother allows him to make a comeback, only then can he think about the same.
While announcing his retirement at UFC 254, Khabib said that his mother didn’t want him to fight in the UFC without his father, who passed away earlier this year. It took him three days to convince her so that he could come to Abu Dhabi and fight Justin Gaethje. From the way he spoke, it was evident that he isn’t the one who could go against his mother.
With the acquiring of the newly renamed Eagle Fighting Championship (EFC), Nurmagomedov will now have a chance to step in the shoes of a promoter. There were reports that he wanted to expand the promotion to the Middle-East and possibly to the USA as well.
With the backing of UFC Fight Pass, he can be sure that people from around the world can watch his fights live.
During the press conference, Khabib also added that he will be focussing on young fighters who haven’t had that many opportunities to fight owing to the pandemic. Since the deal is only two weeks old, full-scale plans haven’t been made yet.
As far as Khabib is concerned, he finds no interest in returning to the Octagon once again. His father wanted him to retire at 30-0. However, the lack of competition is what is stopping him from a comeback.
