Khabib Nurmagomedov stated he was scared of losing in front of his father

Dustin Poirier had a great time competing against the former interim champion, and he still remains the only individual who ever threatened Khabib inside the octagon. The Dagestani-born fighter stated that he didn’t have any good thoughts while he was stuck in that choke.

“When my father was in my corner, it was so much more easy, I could feel that energy, I could feel some power, an aura. I don’t know how to explain it. Even in this fight, when he was in my corner, the fight with Poirier. The choke that Poirier wanted to perform to me. I heard him, even if there were thousands of people, I hear his voice when he is yelling.”

“I had such an experience when I was hearing just his voice. Even I remember when he started to choke, ‘I was thinking: ‘ Maybe he thinks he will strangle me now or do something else, or I am going to give up.’ I have father two meters away, he always teached me not to give up, but he thinks ‘ I will’ I had such thoughts in my head.”

He had already managed to put on the greatest run in the lightweight division and probably could have gone on a dominant run much like Anderson Silva. However, the fighter did not want to compete without his father in his corner and hence stepped away from the sport.
