He clearly wants it. In fact, he wants to prove to the whole world that he can rule the welterweight division as the champion. However, no contract has been signed for a fight against ‘Rocky’ who would probably take some time off before his next title defense. So will Muhammad finally get his shot? Here’s more.

Belal Muhammad wants to prove it all

Belal Muhammad is due a title shot or so he believes. He and Team Khabib Nurmagomedov earlier reported that he has been promised a bout by Dana White. However, the match is yet to be made official and confirmation comments from involved parties are still at large.

But for Muhammad, the title shot means everything. Clearly, Nurmagomedov’s influence is showing here as a battle-hungry Muhammad sat down for a conversation with Damon Martin of MMA Fighting. The fighter who holds a 23-3-1 NC record told Martin that he was ready to show the world his worth.

“I think I’m the most dominant welterweight in the division,” he said. “Once i get my shot, the world, everybody, the UFC, Dana White, all of them are going to know that they had the most dominant welterweight to ever do it standing underneath them this whole time and they’re going to realize ‘Yo, we’ve got to start pushing this guy, this guy’s a monster, he’s a beast.”

Confidence is soaring high for Muhammad, and it makes sense now that Colby Covington is all out of the way. Covington talked up a big storm before being beaten by a unanimous decision. This cleared the coast for Muhammad who didn’t wait to start calling out Edwards. But how soon can the champ fight again?

How long until Edwards is back in the cage?

If we take a quick look at Edwards’ career, one can speculate things for the future. In a good year, Edwards can compete twice at most as he has in the past. He’s competed twice in 2023 as well winning both of his bouts against Kamaru Usman and Covington. This gives Belal Muhammad a chance to be Edwards’ first fight of 2024.

Currently, Khamzat Chimaev too has moved away to middleweight and Muhammad is the most suitable candidate. Perhaps, Edwards can get back into camp around April and the fight could be set up in the latter half of this year. It’s only speculation but possibly Edwards would wait until after UFC 300 to defend his title once again.
