Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson will go down in history as one of the biggest fights that never happened. Nevertheless, both fighters did have an altercation outside the Octagon once. ‘El Cucuy’ recently recalled an incident that took place before their canceled fight at UFC 209. Apparently, Nurmagomedov and his team had Ferguson and his family circled in!
Dana White tried hard to make the Nurmagomedov vs. Ferguson fight happen. It was scheduled five times, but the fight would get canceled each time for different bizarre reasons. However, things got really intense before UFC 209 when ‘The Eagle’ confronted ‘El Cucuy’ at a hotel. Let’s see what Ferguson had to say about the run-in with the Hall of Famer.

It’s no secret that Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov do not like each other. They have traded verbal jibes many times in the past, although the Dagestan native once came to the aid of Ferguson. However, ‘El Cucuy’ claimed that there was this one instance where not only ‘The Eagle’ but all the fighters in the Dagestani camp tried to altercate with him while he was with his family. Ferguson revealed during a recent appearance on the ‘JAXXON Podcast‘, “Khabib’s team surrounded my family when we were checking in. And they surrounded us, and I didn’t know, and my wife’s like, ‘Hey look.'”

It seemed like Tony Ferguson was all alone and nobody was there to have his back. Although there was a little hesitation, the former interim champion was ready to fight all alone if he had to. “I f***ing went around and hair stood up on the back of my head like, ‘F*** I’ll take on all five of you,” Ferguson added. Thankfully, there was no brawl as both parties went on about their business. However, ‘El Cucuy’ wasn’t going to let that slide, because this wasn’t the first time something like that had happened.
‘El Cucuy’ got in Nurmagomedov’s face during a face-off
Tony Ferguson mentioned that he had been surrounded by Khabib Nurmagomedov once before. But the second made him lose his cool. He decided to get in Khabib Nurmagomedov’s face and started talking trash to him. Ferguson further stated, “When we were on the face-off, you can hear me talking to him [Khabib] and that’s when he f***ing knew.”

Ferguson was not going to let Khabib Nurmagomedov go after what he had done to him when his family was with him. So, he kept up his mental warfare on the Dagestan legend as he was trying to compose himself. “I just kept f***ing with him. I was pissed… They’re getting ready up here [mentally], and I knew he was trying to but I kept breaking this b*tch,” Tony Ferguson added.

There seemed to be enough animosity between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson for them to put on an entertaining rivalry for the fans. But now that ‘El Cucuy’ is spiraling downward with a 7-o losing streak and ‘The Eagle’ showing no signs of a return to the Octagon, there is little to no hope that we’ll ever get to see this fight happen, which can only be dubbed as one of the greatest missed opportunities by the UFC.
