Chimaev is fresh off a 17-second victory over veteran middleweight Gerald Meerschaert. The 9-0 fighter has now set his sights on Conor McGregor. As a result, he received massive buzz in the MMA community. Khamzat is not one to hold back on his patented style of trash talk that is reminiscent of Khabib Nurmagomedov. Additionally, he has received massive exposure as he advances in the promotion.

‘Notorious’ is officially retired from MMA. Nevertheless, he remains at the forefront of conversations. Furthermore, UFC President Dana White created a massive buzz around the megastar when he said that there were some plans in the works. Although the nature of the plans hasn’t been revealed, fight fans are keen to watch them unfold.

On paper, the fight itself is extremely viable as Khamzat Chimaev is a natural 170-pounder, who is fighting at middleweight. This makes his more recent KO even more impressive considering that his power translates to the middleweight division. Moreover, he is keen to keep fighting frequently and is unlikely to wait around for anyone, even McGregor.

The fight offers a compelling stylistic narrative when you consider the well-rounded skill set that Chimaev possesses. He explodes on opponents and executes a dominant grappling clinic on them. UFC President Dana White has gone on record to call Khamzat one of the most “special” fighters he’s ever seen. The long-time boss of the UFC and the UFC brass has put a major promotional focus on Khamzat Chimaev.
