It seems like Khamzat Chimaev is looking to go straight for the top spot in the middleweight division and has issued a callout to champ Dricus Du Plessis. And to no one’s surprise, fans were quick to give their take on this situation. For the unversed, Chimaev’s dominant outing last month gave wind to speculations that he was going to leapfrog Sean Strickland to challenge the South African champion.

While we don’t have any word about a title shot for Chimaev from Dana White, ‘Borz’ decided to post a usual tweet with a picture of Donald Trump pointing his finger, which has become some sort of meme on the internet. Chimaev tagged the middleweight champion in that post, sending a subtle message about his intentions to fight for the belt next.

‘Borz’ seems unfazed about fighting Du Plessis because, just a few weeks ago, the South African sent a warning his way, highlighting the difference in the strength. While ‘Stillknocks’ labeled the Emirati fighter’s power as a ‘gun’, he considers himself to be a ‘tank’, and when fans learned about that statement from the champ, they also warned ‘Borz’ about fighting the 185-pound kingpin.

Despite the prowess he showcased against ‘The Reaper’, fans aren’t sure if calling out Dricus Du Plessis is a wise decision. Just like last time, they also sided with the champion, claiming that ‘Stillknocks’ would bring the undefeated star back down to earth.

Fans believe Khamzat Chimaev cannot handle Dricus Du Plessis

Khamzat Chimaev’s UFC career has been a mixed bag of emotions. After initially tearing through the welterweight division, ‘Borz’ was forced to sideline owing to constant health issues and was essentially competing just once a year in his supposed prime. However, he has certainly never been one to back down when the need arises to call out someone, which fans claim would be detrimental to his UFC career.

One fan suggested ‘Borz’ gets a taste of what Dricus du Plessis can do to him by fighting him on South African soil. “Dricus is built differently bro, ask Dana to bring UFC to South Africa and you will get humbled,” stated one fan, warning Chimaev about the consequences of taking on ‘Stillknocks’ in front of his partisan home crowd.

Furthermore, some fans also took a dig at ‘Borz’ with a little history lesson. That fan added, “He is going to prove to you why Europeans conquered the world, run back to your little cave like a coward.” The fans showed absolutely no mercy to Khamzat Chimaev, with a couple of fans writing, “Dricus will make you cry at the press conference and humiliate you in the cage,” and, “Can you promise the fans you won’t cry at the presscon?”

“Dricus is good at making his opponents cry,” one of them wrote highlighting seeing how Du Plessis made Israel Adesanya and Sean Strickland tear up before those fights. And as we all know, ‘Stillknocks’ handed both of them defeats. As mentioned earlier, Chimaev debuted in the UFC in 2020 and fought most of his bouts in the welterweight division. However, he jumped back up to middleweight due to Dana White’s issues with him losing weight at UFC 279.

Hence, fans seem to want to see him fight more as a 185’er since they aren’t convinced that he rightfully deserves a title shot. “No, you wait in line,” and, “It’s early champ,” were the reactions from a couple of fans who believe that ‘Borz’ has to climb the ladder like others. However, some fans seemed to like the idea of the South African champ taking on Chimaev, claiming that it’s “the fight WE WANT!”

What do you reckon? Do you agree when the fans claim Khamzat Chimaev vs. Dricus Du Plessis is not the fight to make? Let us know in the comments down below.
