When it comes to dominance in combat sports, Russian fighters have left an indelible mark on the global stage. From the legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov to the technically brilliant boxer Dmitry Bivol, these athletes have become icons in their respective disciplines. Carrying that legacy forward today are names like Islam Makhachev and Khamzat Chimaev, who continue to shake up the UFC’s elite ranks with world-class performances. But the influence of Russian fighters extends far beyond the UFC.
Around the globe, MMA promotions are flourishing, nurturing fresh talent and offering a platform for the next generation to shine. One such rising star is Baissangour Chamsoudinov (9-0-0), a proud Chechen native who recently headlined ARES FC 30. There, he seized the vacant welterweight title with a commanding knockout win over Brazil’s Thiago Lima. At just 23 years old, ‘Baki’s poise, power, and finishing ability have already positioned him as one to watch.
His breakout performance didn’t go unnoticed. UFC middleweight contender Khamzat Chimaev, who shares a personal bond with Baissangour Chamsoudinov, was among the first to celebrate the win. Despite living away from Chechnya for several years, ‘Borz’ has never strayed from his roots. Even before the ARES 30 event, he showed support by tagging “@baysangur” in an Instagram story. Following the emphatic victory, he congratulated his friend once again, with ARES FC reposting Chimaev’s shoutout to its official page.

Their connection traces back to 2023, when they trained together at TK MMA Fit. Over a span of two months, they honed their skills side by side, with Baissangour Chamsoudinov playing a key role in helping Khamzat Chimaev prepare for his scheduled UFC 294 clash against Paulo Costa—a fight that was ultimately scrapped due to ‘Borz’ falling ill. Still, the experience laid the foundation for a meaningful friendship and mutual respect.
Later that year, Khazmat Chimaev returned the favor by cornering ‘Baki’ in his debut under the PFL banner—a bout that marked the beginning of a five-fight deal with the promotion. Now, as Chenchya Wolf gears up for one of the biggest and toughest fights of his career, fans can’t help but wonder: will Baissangour Chamsoudinov be in his corner? Only time will tell. For now, let’s take a closer look at how ‘Borz’ intends to tackle the challenges ahead.

What promise did Khamzat Chimaev make as the countdown to his fight with Dricus Du Plessis began?
Last week, after UFC 315 wrapped up, Dana White returned with his signature flair to announce the blockbuster fights fans have been waiting for. Among the big reveals was the clash between Ilia Topuria and Islam Makhachev set for UFC 317. White also announced the main event for UFC 319—a highly anticipated 185lb fight between reigning champion Dricus Du Plessis and the undefeated powerhouse Khamzat Chimaev.
Both fighters enter this bout with perfect Octagon records, setting the stage for a fierce showdown. Khamzat Chimaev’s commanding submission victory over Robert Whittaker in Saudi Arabia last year firmly established him as a top 185lb contender. Meanwhile, ‘DDP’ demonstrated his championship resilience by successfully defending his belt 2nd time earlier this year in a thrilling rematch against Sean Strickland in Australia.
What’s your perspective on:
Can Khamzat Chimaev dethrone Dricus Du Plessis, or will the champion prove too tough to beat?
Have an interesting take?
With both fighters proving their elite status, the big question remains: who truly holds the edge? Darren Till, a close friend of the Chenchya wolf, shared his candid take during an interview with GIVEMESPORT:

“Dricus is the champion now… I was one round away from absolutely smashing him. I don’t want to sound disrespectful, but he was an easy fight when I fought him. He didn’t give me any problems on the feet. [Eventually], he took me down and got me [via submission], but I really think Khamzat beats him.”
With the UFC 319 Chicago countdown in full swing, who do you think will come out on top? Dricus Du Plessis or Khamzat Chimaev? Share your thoughts below.
