History tells us that how good a fighter is has little to do with how popular they get. And Khamzat Chimaev, according to UFC CEO Dana White, is the most popular fighter in the UFC, after Conor McGregor of course. And it is easy to see why.
The Chechen has dominated all his opponents so far, except Gilbert Burns. He has great mic skills and has a knack for saying all the right things. From screaming assertions that he would “kill them all”, ‘them’ being his upcoming opponents, to promising to make his upcoming UFC 294 middleweight opponent Paulo Costa cry in the octagon, Chimaev is a menace. And, it seems, given the latest update on his social media by Paulo Costa, the middleweight might just succeed.

Paulo Costa reveals he had surgery just days before the Khamzat Chimaev bout
On his Instagram account, Paulo Costa revealed that he had undergone surgery on his elbow. He posted pictures of said elbow, as well as pictures from the hospital and videos. One video showed his right elbow having limited mobility, and him being unable to raise that arm after the surgery. This, of course, is a worrying sign as Chimaev seems determined to not only defeat Costa but also humiliate him.

“How strong are u? U never really know until you get tested by fire 🔥 of life.
I did surgery 3 weeks ago , 10 seams size . But I know how tough I’m and continues improving and overcoming myself. It doesn’t stop me, still doing my things sparrings and everything. I’m so blessing , Gods gives me exceptional condition, and surrounded my by great peoples 🙌🧃🧬,” he wrote as the caption.
This, of course, drew strong reactions from fans who took to the comments section to let him know precisely what they thought about this development.
Fans react to Costa’s surgery update
Fans were not amused at Costa’s post. Most felt that this was just a way for him to make excuses in advance if he lost to Chimaev. Here is what some of them had to say:
