Jon Jones is arguably the greatest fighter of all time when it comes to MMA. After a triumphant return at UFC 285, where he demolished Ciryl Gane in the very first round of the fight, he found his next opponent in the form of former UFC heavyweight champion, Stipe Miocic. However, ‘Bones’ also mentioned that his next fight could be his last.

The reigning UFC heavyweight champion made a successful return after a three-year hiatus and dominated Ciryl Gane by submitting him within two minutes of the first round. However, after the fight, Jon Jones stated that he didn’t feel like a champion and may consider retiring. However, UFC critic Chael Sonnen believes that ‘Bones’ is acting like a child.

Chael Sonnen claims Jon Jones is seeking attention

‘The American Gangster ‘ recently posted a video on his YouTube channel sharing his take on Jon Jones hinting at retirement. Sonnen isn’t buying it. He was very disappointed with the fans for retaliating against his retirement teases. But the former UFC star claims that ‘Bones’ is craving attention and compared that to a story from his childhood. “I have been surprised with the lack of pushback when Jon [Jones] made the statement that it would be his last fight,” said Chael Sonnen.

‘The American Gangster’ added, When I was a small child, I would say things that I knew weren’t so, where people didn’t want to be so… just to get the praise. If I did something in art class and I did a great job and I looked around, I could see all my classmates. I knew mine was the best. I’d hold it up and go, ‘This is pretty bad,’ so that they would know that really good. It’s a thing that you do. You’re just that little kid that starved for attention. ”

He claims that Jon Jones wanted to get some attention, and it was strange for him to talk about retirement with still so much time on his hands.

Sonnen expresses disappointment toward fans

It surprised Chael Sonnen to see that most fans followed through with Jones’s retirement tease. He said, “Nobody did throw that back and said, ‘Jon, you have got several years left. Jon, you’ve got a gap. You’ve worked so hard to get this… keep building the legacy. I was surprised at how few people did that.”

Chael Sonnen expected fans to urge Jon Jones not to retire since he has to fill an enormous gap that saw him sit out for three whole years. And this is why he also feels that the reigning champion took a risk by teasing his retirement, since ‘Bones’ didn’t get the attention he was looking for.

It will delight most fans that there is no official confirmation yet regarding Jon Jones’ retirement. Dana White mentioned that he had vanished after the fight at UFC 285. But the UFC president is sure he’ll be back by the time the Miocic fight is finalized. Fans are waiting for ‘Bones’ to return to the octagon and defend his heavyweight championship for the first time in his career. What do you make of Sonnen’s claims about ‘Bones’?
