Joe Rogan criticizes ‘SNL’ for underutilizing comedians

During his recent interaction with the host of “Blocks” podcast, Neal Brennan, Rogan shared how the capability of SNL dipped after they embraced the modern nomenclature of comedy. While praising the unfiltered comedic act of the late Norm Macdonald, Rogan and Brennan stated that the long-time show has compromised on comedy by handcuffing their comedians more and more.

“SNL seems like they handcuff themselves, like they’re handcuffing themselves back. Then it was less, less back then, but now for sure.” said Rogan. He further emphasized that working in production might be harsh considering that you have to deliver before anyone else, however, the 56-year-old emphasized that the producers should leave good comedians alone.

He further added, “You can basically move executives around in a network as if they’re just pieces on a chessboard or in Tic Tac Toe. It’s not about the individuals, it’s about the quality of the shows they’re creating. As long as you have talented people like the Paul Sims of the world making great shows leave them fu**ing alone.”

The million-dollar podcaster hosted Comedy Central’s The Man Show back in his early days and since then, Rogan has been at the crossroads with the producers. Interestingly, Rogan went on to explain why the executives are so scared of the modern world.

Rogan explained the loopholes of comedy

Joe Rogan never agreed with the producers on the basis of content. The former fear factor host explained that the executives are scared about content in recent times specifically due to cancel culture.  “If you’re on network television, you’re dealing with so many executives. They’re all terrified and everyone’s scared and everyone’s ideologically captured,” said Rogan.

He further explained that the problems lie behind the fact that the restriction that is imposed on these executives to create a certain kind of content. “The real problem is the format is just so restrictive. The fact that you have to break for commercials. The fact that you have a specific amount of time, all of that is just, you can’t compete with the internet because of that. You just can’t. And then you have all the meddling,”

Joe Rogan has always argued that the intervention of certain social stuff in the world of comedy will ruin its essence and seems like we are witnessing it now. Nonetheless, what’s your take on Rogan’s words?
