The MMA landscape was very different two decades ago. There were some fighters, especially in the early days of the MMA, who transcend questions such as what their record is, how many championships they won, how many times they defended their title, etc.
Their legends are made on the backs of stories fans and those who saw them tell us. People like Royce Gracie, Fedor Emelianenko, Wanderlei Silva, and Mirko Cro Cop are some such fighters. They are the superstars who were integral to attracting new fans and eyeballs to the sport. We stand on the shoulders of giants, as they say. And in the MMA world, these guys are some of the giants on whose back the sport became what it is today.

The legend of Mirko Cro Cop
Take Mirko Cro Cop, for instance, one of the scariest fighters to walk into the cage. He was stoic and respectful, as well as incredibly powerful, quick and flexible. He was once described by Joe Rogan as having ” the eyes of a guy who has killed someone with a knife” and being “a real murderer”. And it is easy to see why.
In his prime, the Croatian kickboxer was a vicious killer, known for his vicious head kicks that alone got him 11 highlight-reel knockouts throughout his career. In fact, so effective were his high kicks that it was said of Cro Cop “”Right leg hospital; left leg cemetery”. As a result, he is considered one of the best kickers in the history of MMA. And when a recent video showing a 48-year-old practicing on the heavy bag surfaced, fans could not contain themselves.

Another gave a detailed analysis of his technique.
What I find interesting about his lethal high kick is how he drops both arms and barely pivots the grounded leg. All ways you are not taught to do, yet he has one of the best high kicks ever

One fan reminisced about watching him when he was young.
I remember being a kid and watching Cro Cop highlight. That was when I was just getting into MMA. Seeing Schaub knock him out was traumatizing.
