UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards has confirmed that he will be defending his lightweight title at the UFC 300 anniversary mega card in April next year. ‘Rocky’, who defended his welterweight title for the second time against Colby Covington earlier this month at UFC 296, got the chance to parade his UFC title at his favorite soccer club, Aston Villa’s home ground yesterday.

Edwards has spoken about wanting to move up and fight for the middleweight championship to become the first British double-champ in the UFC. After his victory lap at Villa Park, Edwards revealed that his next fight had already been decided by the UFC and Dana White.

Leon Edwards revealed that the UFC has decided that he would defend his title for the third time at the UFC 300 card, although he did not comment on who his opponent would be (most probably Belal Muhammad). He was hopeful that if he won at the anniversary card, he would like to make his fourth title defense in his hometown of Birmingham at Villa Park, home of his favorite childhood club.

“I will defend my belt in April at #UFC300 in Vegas again, then hopefully in the summertime get a fight back home in Birmingham at Villa Park. I’m in talks with the UFC, so hopefully we can get it done,” the welterweight champion said. Who do you think he should fight at UFC 300?

One take at a time

Hi, I am Kanishk and I am a UFC Writer at EssentiallySports. I love telling the stories of these magnificent fighters and this wildly unpredictable sport that is so frustrating and yet so joyous at the same time. I never really used to watch MMA, thinking it too crude or brutal a sport to deserve respect.
