“I think that they make you so mentally tough because the practices are so tough and they push you so hard. I consider him (Khabib) the ‘GOAT’ of MMA.,” said Belal Muhammad about his training with former lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. The welterweight contender is just a night away from fighting the biggest battle of his career against Leon Edwards at UFC 304 but will he be able to capitalize on the skills that he got from ‘Eagle’?

Leon Edwards reveals gameplan against Belal Muhammad

According to Belal Muhammad, Khabib Nurmagomedov is the best fighter this sport has ever seen, and training under him would give him something that could propel him towards victory against Leon Edwards, “To be able to talk to the Michael Jordan of your sport anytime is incredible,” said Muhammad. However, how much of this is true against an opponent like Edwards?

At the pre-fight press conference, Edwards revealed Muhammad, ‘s fate, “He’s too slow anyways. Now he is angry, tense. He’s gonna fall into traps,” said Edwards.

He further added, “Get knocked the fuck out, you know what that means. Too slow, too small. You are too slow, you are too small. The range is too short. You are gonna get knocked out. You are tailor-made for me.” For Muhammad, this fight means a place at the high table but for ‘Rocky’ it is just another match. The welterweight champion is not even taking this as a challenge as he believes that this would help him to get close to Georges St-Pierre’s record.

“He’s just another guy in the way, right? I’m chasing the great GSP’s record because he is another opponent in the way,” Edwards further added. Muhammad has indeed been training alongside Khabib Nurmagomedov and lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev for a while now but the fact that Edwards had a full camp gives a massive edge to ‘Rocky’. Regardless, another incident happened at the press conference that got the MMA world into talking.

“For me, it’s all like, banter and whatever…For [Muhammad], he’s just like, ‘I hate your team, I hate your brother’…I was just like, laughing [in the elevator]…He was so awkward in the corner. Just like in the corner by himself, like awkward…So we were sort of like bantering and laughing. He was quiet in that f****** elevator. As soon as the door opened though and security was outside, he was like, ‘Yeah, you guys are p****, man,” said Edwards in a conversation with Daniel Cormier.
